Beat It On Down The Line Lyrics

Well this job I've got is just a little too hard,
Running out of money, Lord, I need more pay.
Gonna wake up in the morning Lord, gonna pack my bags,
I'm gonna beat it on down the line.

I'm goin' down the line, goin down the line,
Goin' down the line, goin down the line,
Goin' down the line, goin down the line,
Beat it on down the line.

Yes I'll be waiting at the station Lord, when that train pulls on by,
I'm going back where I belong.
I'm going back to that same old used-to-be,
Down in Joe Brown's coal mine.

Coal mine, coal mine, coal mine, coal mine.
Coal mine, coal mine, coal mine, coal mine.
Coal mine, coal mine, coal mine, coal mine.
Down in Joe Brown's coal mine.

Yeah, I'm goin' back to that shack way across that railroad track,
Uh huh, that's where I think I belong.
And that's where I'm gonna make my happy home.

Happy home, happy home, happy home, happy home.
Happy home, happy home, happy home, happy home.
Happy home, happy home, happy home, happy home.
That's where I'm gonna make my happy home.

I don't think this song has to be taken so literal. This guy has this life where he is struggling and not happy; however, he isn't down in the dumps. He realizes this and knows things need to change. He goes back to his old life. Goes back to the simple life with his steady job that's enough for his girl and him. He is happy again. Sometimes just have to do what keeps you happy. Do what you love. You don't have to go by what everyone else does. You know don't fix what isn't broken.

i can't beleive i am the first to comment this. to me this explains the railroad hobos of the midwest an how the keep moving to get a job. i've been to arkansas and tthere are people just like this character jumping the tracks until they finlly settled down

the line "Yeah, I'm goin' back to that shack way across that railroad track, Uh huh, that's where I think I belong. And that's where I'm gonna make my happy home." sends chills down my spine and it makes me want to move to like arkansas or tennesee or something

Dead on... this is currently my favorite dead song. Definitely get that chill too
