Silly Love Songs Lyrics
You'd think that people would have had enought of silly love songs.
But I look around me and I see it isn't so.
Some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs.
And what's wrong with that?
I'd like to know, 'cause here I go again
I love you, I love you,
I love you, I love you,
I can't explain the feeling's plain to me, say can't you see?
Ah, she gave me more, she gave it all to me
Now can't you see,
What's wrong with that
I need to know, 'cause here I go again
I love you, I love you
Love doesn't come in a minute,
sometimes it doesn't come at all
I only know that when I'm in it
It isn't silly, no, it isn't silly, love isn't silly at all.
How can I tell you about my loved one?
How can I tell you about my loved one?
How can I tell you about my loved one?
(I love you)
How can I tell you about my loved one?
(I love you)
But I look around me and I see it isn't so.
Some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs.
And what's wrong with that?
I'd like to know, 'cause here I go again
I love you, I love you,
I love you, I love you,
Ah, she gave me more, she gave it all to me
Now can't you see,
What's wrong with that
I need to know, 'cause here I go again
I love you, I love you
sometimes it doesn't come at all
I only know that when I'm in it
It isn't silly, no, it isn't silly, love isn't silly at all.
How can I tell you about my loved one?
(I love you)
How can I tell you about my loved one?
(I love you)

The song is a response to critics in general (including John Lennon). One critic in particular had said that the silly love songs won't keep getting Paul McCartney sales, and his popularity might suffer. Macca responded with this number 1 hit
A lovely song... Simple yet meaningful :) Great base line too
whoops bass line lol ;p
i agree. awesome song
This is Paul's response to John Lennon....who had frequently savaged Paul in various songs... In particular the song How Do You Sleep by Lennon is quite a scathing indictment of McCartney.....That he was too trite to be a true artist....and sold out to the pedestrian fan...
Paul replies..."Some people want to fill the world with Silly Love songs...what's wrong with that?"....
Ugh, this song makes me want to kill myself. I still can't understand why Macca would release this fluffy poppy crap as singles when he was easily capable of pulling off rocking gems like "Letting Go" and "Old Siam, Sir." It's too bad his most underrated stuff is his best.
i agree this song is a little too poppy, but it's still cool i dig those 70s horns though
Yes, it's 'poppy'. Yes, it was played to death when it came out. Yes, it's sugary sweet.
Probably a response to a John Lennon (or critics) statement about "only" doing love songs.
On the surface this song seems simple (lyrically). Listen again. This song is COMPLEX (musically). It's got about half a dozen different melodies to it. It's got a string section that sneaks up on you. It's got horns. It's got that amazing 'Lead' bass guitar (again with about 6 different melodies). Even the backing vocals aren't straight forward.
I hated this song as AM radio drivel when it came out(even though I'm a hardcore McCartney fan), but rediscovered it on a remastered CD and found a new appreciation for it. Amazing.
And on the surfa
this is a pleasant sounding song which has good vibes, and there's nothing wrong with that at all.
Absolutely one of my favorite McCartney songs. I agree with another post that speaks of the song's complexity. Personally, I find it ingenious. McCartney is a master of beautiful and catchy melodies.
