Helen Wheels Lyrics
Said Farewell To My Last Hotel, It Was Never Much Kind Of Abode
Glasgow Town Never Brought Me Down When I Was Heading Out On The Road
Carlisle City Never Looked So Pretty And The Kendal Freeway's Fast
Slowdown Driver, Want To Stay Alive, I Want To Make This Journey Last.
Helen, Hell On Wheels, Ain't Nobody Else Gonna Know The Way She Feels
Helen, Hell On Wheels, And They Never Gonna Take Her Away
M6 South Down To Liverpool, Where They Play The West Coast Sound,
Sailor Sam He Came From Birmingham But He Never Will Be Found
Doing Fine When A London Sign Greets Me Like A Long Lost Friend,
Mister Motor Won't You Check Her Out, She's Got To Take Me Back Again.
Helen, Hell On Wheels, Ain't Nobody Else Gonna Know The Way She Feels
Helen, Hell On Wheels, And They Never Gonna Take Her Away
Glasgow Town Never Brought Me Down When I Was Heading Out On The Road
Carlisle City Never Looked So Pretty And The Kendal Freeway's Fast
Slowdown Driver, Want To Stay Alive, I Want To Make This Journey Last.
Helen, Hell On Wheels, And They Never Gonna Take Her Away
Sailor Sam He Came From Birmingham But He Never Will Be Found
Doing Fine When A London Sign Greets Me Like A Long Lost Friend,
Mister Motor Won't You Check Her Out, She's Got To Take Me Back Again.
Helen, Hell On Wheels, And They Never Gonna Take Her Away

A Great song to sing along to while your driving - once you figure all of the words out, I mean.
All of the places he mentions are in England and are where the Beatles toured in the early days (way before coming to America).
If you watch the Beatles Anthology DVD there's a part where they're talking about travelling all over England in their van and how cold it was and how they tried to stay warm. During some of the music they show black and white footage of a van travelling thru nasty weather and all names of the cities and little Englishs town they went to are shown on the screen. Almost all of them from this song are listed.
Paul said this song title came from his Land Rover truck which he affentionately called Helen Wheels (Hell On Wheels).

This is missing the third verse:
Got no time for a rum and lime I want to get my right foot down Shake some dust off of this old bus I got to get her out of town Spend the day on the motorway Where the carburators blast Slow down driver, want to stay alive Want to make this journey last
Helen Wheels ....
Great song! I love the Rock and Roll songs Paul wrote!
Another one of Paul's songs that doesn't get enough credit! Sweet song!
