No Words Lyrics
You Want To Give Your Love Away
And End Up Giving Nothing
I'm Not Surprised, That Your Black Eyes
Are Gazing.
You Say That Love Is Everything
And What We Need The Most Of
I Wish You Knew, That's Just How True
My Love Was.
No Words For My Love
You're Burning Love, Sweet Burning Love
It's Deep Inside,
You Mustn't Hide, Your Burning Love
Sweet Burning Love, Your Burning Love.
You Want To Turn Your Head Away
And Someone's Thinking Of You
I Wish You'd See, It's Only Me,
I Love You.
No Words For My Love
And End Up Giving Nothing
I'm Not Surprised, That Your Black Eyes
Are Gazing.
And What We Need The Most Of
I Wish You Knew, That's Just How True
My Love Was.
It's Deep Inside,
You Mustn't Hide, Your Burning Love
Sweet Burning Love, Your Burning Love.
And Someone's Thinking Of You
I Wish You'd See, It's Only Me,
I Love You.

YOUU KNOWWW "It's Only Me" is what johnny allegedly said to paul during one of their fights near the end of the beatles.
you know, just putting that otu there. :P
I definitely think this is a song about John.
"You Want To Give Your Love Away And End Up Giving Nothing I'm Not Surprised, That Your Black Eyes Are Gazing."
I think this is reflective of John's personality... anyone familiar with John could see that.
"You Say That Love Is Everything And What We Need The Most Of I Wish You Knew, That's Just How True My Love Was."
Do I smell an "All You Need is Love" reference?
"You're Burning Love, Sweet Burning Love"
Hmm. "Burning Love" by Elvis Presley. Elvis is one of those artists whose music provided the initial basis of John and Paul's relationship. Seems important.
"You Want To Turn Your Head Away And Someone's Thinking Of You I Wish You'd See, It's Only Me, I Love You."
I think this verse is the most telling. It tells about John pulling away from the group and, more importantly, his intimate relationship with Paul, yet Paul continues to care about him.
classicrockgirl, I agree that the "it's only me" line is enormously significant. Paul has shared that story many times, and once when asked what it meant to him, he replied "everything." therefore, Paul must have held the phrase dearly, and wouldn't have just thrown it out in a song without it being a conscious decision to use those specific words. It was a message to John, to let him know that he hadn't forgotten what they meant to each other, that he still loved him and always would.
Perfect. I agree.
Perfect. I agree.
"I Wish You'd See, It's Only Me, I Love You." Paul said when John and him were arguing and it was getting too heated John would stop and pull his glasses down and look him in the eye and say "It's only me". I think that Paul wanted to give Denny some writing credit ($$) and to keep people of the trail. Can't have people wondering just how many songs are about John, you know.

*and to keep people OFF the trail.

"You Want To Give Your Love Away And End Up Giving Nothing" Paul to John about Yoko
"I'm Not Surprised, That Your Black Eyes Are Gazing." I almost want to say this part is Yoko, she did lots a poker faced gazing at the Beatles in the studio. Paul is not surprised that Yoko looks at them like she knows everything.

I'm glad i am not the only one that thinks this is basically a love song to John Lennon. Even though this is one of the few Wings songs co-credited to Denny Laine, i think the lyrics are total McCartney, and truly an intimate secret message to Lennon. Although McCartney and Lennon had both traded cutting jabs in songs for a few years on their early solo albums, i think this is McCartney's telling John he loves him and wants to get over the hate and fighting--and way before John's death and the obvious "Here Today" acknowledgements, as BandOnTtheRun was recorded in "73. By 1974, Paul and John were starting to be friendly again (see "A Toot & A Snore in '74" as John and Paul jams with Stevie Wonder). The first line, "You Say That Love Is Everything And What We Need The Most Of" is so clearly a reference to "All You Need Is Love" and the YOU that the song is about can then only be John. The last line, "I wish you'd see, Its only me, I love you" was the secret message to John, as only they would have known the special meaning. McCartney during interview much later: “Realizing he had hurt me with one of his comments, John lowered his granny glasses and peeking out from behind them said gently ‘It’s only me.’”
