I'm a little confused as to what exactly this song means as well. Either he is in love with his roommate and she doesn't feel the same (I go from room to room hoping to find your presence/I play my music louder than you'd like me to) or he feels that his girlfriend is drifting away and he can't do anything about it.
This song is about a guy who loves this girl but she is going through a lot and keeps pushing him away. Its suffocating him and he compares himself to the dieing flowers. He's beating himself up because he loves her so much and doesn't know why she won't be with him. Maybe there is another? "i play my music than u like me too" meaning there r things about him that get under her skin like how he is expressing his feelings but it doesn't matter. He is trying to be compassionate and give her some space but he is going through something too and doesn't think it should stop them from being together. He wants them to help each other. She comes home at 5 oclock 'shuffling in' bcuz she was out late beating herself up with drugs and alcohol and it kills him so he tries not to care by saying like 'fine. u deal with ur hardships by getting high.
