Surfin' U.S.A. Lyrics
If everybody had an ocean
Across the U.S.A.
Then everybody'd be surfin'
Like Californi-a
You'd seem 'em wearing their baggies
Huarachi sandals too
A bushy bushy blonde hairdo
Surfin' U.S.A.
You'd catch 'em surfin' at Del Mar
Ventura County line
Santa Cruz and Trestles
Australia's Narrabeen
All over Manhattan
And down Doheny Way
Everybody's gone surfin'
Surfin' U.S.A.
We'll all be planning that route
We're gonna take real soon
We're waxing down our surfboards
We can't wait for June
We'll all be gone for the summer
We're on surfari to stay
Tell the teacher we're surfin'
Surfin' U.S.A.
At Haggerty's and Swamis
Pacific Palisades
San Onofre and Sunset
Redondo Beach L.A.
All over La Jolla
At Waimea Bay
Everybody's gone surfin'
Surfin' U.S.A.
Everybody's gone surfin'

What also adds to the feel and pleasure of the song is Al Jardine's and Carl Wilson's "Inside, Outside, USA" background singing during the chorus. I have not figured out yet if Brian Wilson was describing the 2 types of surfing waves here or the fact the beaches inside and outside of the USA. Inside waves are the waves that hit the shore and are generally "beginner" waves. Outside waves are the waves that break farther out from the beach.
The Beaches mentioned in the song are:
a great beach song to jam to. beach boys may be an oldies group but they still rock,
YES! I've been to every beach mentioned here except Australia. What in the world are Huarachi sandles though?! oh and its San Onofre, not anofree
I've checked many lyrics and found it to be Anafree. Huarachi sandals - I don't know, but you can buy some from this address... www.manassasmall.com/teststore/items1.html
At the risk of disagreeing, Jeannie, I've checked in many places, including a Google search of San Anofree, and that is the way that I've found to spell it. :-X
This song is ripped off of Chuck Berry. It's also pretty obvious what it's about.
It is San Onofre, its one of the original surfing beaches in California. And huarache sandals are gnarley old school sandals.
How can anyone not love this song? This is one of the true 'best of the best' Beach Boys and rock-n-roll songs. I remember once back in high school, I was able to put up the "have a safe summer" phrase on the replacable-letters entrance sign, but instead I put "We'll all be gone for the summer We're on safari to stay Tell the teacher we're surfin' Surfin' U.S.A" Everyone thought it was great and it stayed up for the whole 3 months.
