I think it's about a friend who is addicted. Or maybe just suffering from mental illness.
Several sources say this song is about UFOs. Which would make sense if you consider its title. However, friend addicted to drugs also makes sense. It's a Sonic Youth song, who can be sure?

I love this song.. the introish thing with the ascending notes is creepay then it gets all groovish and ahhh I heart sonic youth I'mma go listen to rather ripped.. I lost my copy of washing machine (or it ran away, I have no idea where it is), it's the only sonic youth cd I actually bought (aside from RR) ;_;
