I agree with BlamedTonight314. It's about getting to the top and being a "womanizer" in a sense by taking advantage of girls who might not be the most confident in nature.
It's about self absorbed, narcissistic and shallow people with stereotypical celebrity personas, and most likely how Sonic Youth want to distance themselves from that.
"Self-Obsessed and Sexxee" is the album's tribute to alternative rock's new breed. 'It's not about Courtney Love, it's not about Kathleen Hanna from [riot-grrrl group] Bikini Kill,' Thurston asures. 'It's just sort of about being attracted to somebody who's obviously out of control with self-obsession in the high-profile alternative-rock world."
I always assumed this song was about Courtney Love.
