Seems to be about Stephen Dedalus's mother in Ulysses (James Joyce). The album title (EVOL) might also be partially inspired by a line from that book.

Anybody that is seriously into Sonic Youth knows how adamently they adhered to the beliefs of the Situationist International and how this song is almost a perfect distilation in crystiline form of the Spectacle Society - Kim Gordon was the incarnation of Guy Debord and was as stoically intellectual in her projection of his claims and esprit
