Karen Koltrane Lyrics

Karen’s moving out
out into the sky
Karen trips on a cloud
Sets down w stars in her eyes
She’s alone in a room
She’s deep inside of her mind
Karen’s leaving for the snow
Somewhere to somewhere... blind
She cut the silver lining in my soul
I was tethered to her for a time
are we still together?
will she stay forever?
(will she stay?... beside...
flashlight... Karen stay... etc.)
A LOVE SUPREME
Karen, yr hanging on the line
wraps yr coat tight around
Karen, yr eyes are on the prize
i’ll catch you on my way down

Cover art for Karen Koltrane lyrics by Sonic Youth

No comments here? I'll be the first then. I believe Karen Koltrane is an artist, who may have had some kind of connection with the band...I don't know...I wasn't able to find very much information when I googled the name...just some stuff about an exhibition. Most of my search results were lyrics to this song! Oh, by the way, I think it may have said the exhibition was called "Modern Women Cry, Modern Women Don't Cry" which is a line from "Female Mechanic Now On Duty" Hey what a coincydink... This must be a song about her, and a fine one too - some beautifully ethereal sound effects.

In his "Goodbye 20th Century: A Biography of Sonic Youth", David Browne wrote that "Ranaldo also tackled Karen Koltrane (on A Thousand Leaves) about a lover from his college days who he learned had “a far less extraordinary adulthood” than he’d first imagined.
