Hoarfrost Lyrics

I put my feet deep in the tracks that you made
walked behind you off into the wood
‘We’ll know where when we get there’ you said
And we both knew we would
high above like a spider
the colors turning brown
freeways passing by us
I took your hand and we knelt down
wheels paddle wheels paddle movement as we go
trees passing trees passing signs along the road
a view thru the trees to a couple in the snow
a view thru the trees to a couple standing in
the snow
Suddenly the trees were flashing by us
Clouds reflecting fast across your eyes
We turned into a frozen medow
The wind the only sound
‘We’ll know where when we get there’ you said
‘We’ll know where when we get there’ you said

I really really dig this song. I envision complete trust between two people as they set off on a spontaneous expedition to find the beauty of life. Indeed they do.

this song sounds more sinester than beautiful to me. One time I was driving my car up some steep hills here at night. This song was the perfect accompaniement- especially when I'd look out and see dimly lighted signs and murky trees along with the lyrics "passing trees passing signs along the road" this song definately sounds sinester to me.

Walking, driving in the snow. The perfect snowy night song.

this song like a lot on the album is about tripping nuts but the songs can have more than 1 meaning so this could me something else as well

Wow I was really stoned when I wrote that, what i meant was that they sometimes relate deeper meanings in there songs through trips, because a lot of people have profound thoughts when they trip

I have a bit different understanding. Its a couple in love/harmony that makes a peaceful car roadtrip on a snowy day. This feels, to me, like an allegory of life itself and they both know all along the way how it'll end (we both know we would). Life goes on, goes on and they see (glimpse?) a couple "in" the snow, like lying, then "standing". Its a premonition of what comes next. The break happens with the word "suddenly" while everything before was smooth as steady snow falling sound. Car headlights flashed trees, fast reflecting clouds really sounds like car losing control then crashing/rotating. The fact that then, its total silence except the wind sound seems to confirm that. They then lie on the ground, actually melting with the soil (turned into frozen meadow). I like to think that the premonition of a couple standing in the snow and the sentence "you'll know where when we get there" that concludes, means that the trip goes on, at another level of consciousness. A very beautiful song were music, voice and lyrics are so well balanced, that the final result is more than music: images, poetry, meaning.
