So many times,
I've tried to make you understand
You never tried to see behind my smile
If I didn't know you like I do
I'd get you into
The secret in me
Just because I'm good at fooling you
When no one's around
I walk in your shoes
I'm smiling while lying to you
I'm smiling while lying to you
If you only knew
I always try to hide behind a painted smile
So many things the public never seen
If I didn't know you like I do
I'll get you into
The secret in me
Just because I'm good at fooling you
When no one's around
I walk in your shoes
I'm smiling while lying to you
I'm smiling while lying to you
When will you see true
I'm smiling while lying to you
I'm smiling while lying to you
If you only knew
I'm smiling while lying to you
Won't you come (?) to see true
I'm smiling while lying to you
If you only knew
I'm smiling while lying to you
Would you concede my smile
I'm smiling while lying to you
If you only knew
I've tried to make you understand
You never tried to see behind my smile
I'd get you into
The secret in me
When no one's around
I walk in your shoes
I'm smiling while lying to you
If you only knew
So many things the public never seen
I'll get you into
The secret in me
When no one's around
I walk in your shoes
I'm smiling while lying to you
When will you see true
I'm smiling while lying to you
If you only knew
Won't you come (?) to see true
I'm smiling while lying to you
If you only knew
Would you concede my smile
I'm smiling while lying to you
If you only knew

If I didn't know better, I'd swear this song was written about me. It's basically, in my opinion about someone who has a huge secret (or maybe even a whole secret part of their personality) that they just plain don't show to anyone. Ultimately, I think it's a song about someone who is struggling, maybe even sad, but they plaster a smile on their face and show that part of themselves to the world.
Hence the "I'm smiling while lying to you," because, in effect, the smile IS the lie. I think they "smile" because that is what has come to be expected of them. I get this from the line that says "if I didn't know you like I do, I'd let you into the secret in me." Meaning that the speaker knows the people around her EXPECT and maybe even NEED her to be happy. Therefore, she can't be anything else to them, or let them into the secret in her (her sadness).
However, the speaker clearly wants someone, mostly these people that she is supposedly close to, to really understand her. They don't really KNOW HER. They know the her that she shows them, which we have already stated is a lie. Her desperation is shown by the lines of "When will you see true," and "if you only knew."
She feels empty because she is so filled with these feelings that no one will ever know, because she'll never let them out.
The only lines I struggle with are "Just because I'm good at fooling you, when no one's around, I walk in your shoes." I think this means, that she feels like this person or people that she fools feel like she's happy and doing fine just because she seems happy. However, when all the people she lies to are gone, she spends her time imagining what it would be like to be them, or anyone else besides herself. I'm not sure, though, that's the best interpretation I can come up with for that line.

Well, i have a very special point of view: Is a woman, married to some square head dumb (sorry, my english is so imperfect...). She has a bit of a lesbian inclination, and doesn´t have the chance to talk about it or live it freely. So, in secret she goes away from her normal boring live to let her impulse grow free. She es happy and anjoys doing it, and her husband is so deep into his work and "normal" life that can´t even realize what is going on. This thougt fits with the parts:...

This thougt fits with the parts: "I'm smiling while lying to you", and also with "if you only knew..." Also fits with the part of "when no one is around i walk in your shoes". Meaning (i think) she is also looking for and engaging with girls, as he would. Good song that calls the atention for many misunderstood women trapped in lives that follow certain rules planned before in wich they don´t fit, but can´t get away.

I agree with you Kari, but I also think that she may be saying that her identity is something ENTIRELY different and something that may be socially unacceptable. She may be singing about the essence of living a "fake" life. Hence the name "Silicone". I like your interpretation though.
