The most dignified and solid break up song ever. It trancends breaking up. Nothing is easy and goodbye is always hard - but sung with love, this is a masterpice.
This sounds like a married man telling his single lady love that they must end things. The fact that they are "meeting" somewhere does not give the sense that it is a relationship in the open. He acknowledges what she means to him, but both need to move on with their lives. Sad but pretty.
@LaurelG No, it doesn’t. I never dated or messed around with any married man and I had to do something similar. Meeting with a lover and we bother decided it wasn’t going to work and moved on, reasons that were absolutely NOT related to an adulterous affair!! Why people gotta go straight to the super negative and forbidden all the time. Music is great when there isn’t an illicit affair involved ya know!

This happened to me, my married lover wanted to carry on ,but I had other commitments too.....so we just F***** & kissed & said goodbye ,I still think of him every second of every day.....I will love him 4 ever.life is not fair.that was 40 years ago,but it feels like yesterday.Oh the memories !!!

I just broke up with my girlfriend. I'm moving to another State, so we both felt it wouldn't be right to see each other. But it's a relief for me because I loved her more than she loved me. She always told me lies. She never believed in me, always finding faults in me, so I let her believe what she likes. She's always listened to others. I thought I'd be really sad, but if only, very relieved.
sigh. breaking up is a horrible experience... sometimes you just want to enjoy the last moments together without casting any blame.

@martin , He didn’t “ditch” me, it was me who ended it, why do you ask how old I am? I was very young at the time & it was the best answer to a sad problem.????♀️????
