Fare Thee Well Lyrics
Fare thee well my bright star
I watched your taillights blaze into nothingness
But you were long gone before I ever got to you
Before you blazed past this address
And now I think of having loved and having lost
But never know what it feels like to never love
Who can say what's better when my heart's become the cost
A mere token of a brighter jewel sent from above
Fare thee well my bright star
The vanity of youth the color of your eyes
And maybe if I'd fanned the blazing fire of your day-to-day
Or if I'd been older I'd been wise
Too thick the heat of those long summer evenings
For a cool evening I began to yearn
But you could only feed upon the things which feed a fire
Waiting to see if I would burn
Fare thee well my bright star
It was a brief brilliant miracle dive
That which I looked up to and I clung to for dear life
Had to burn itself up just to make itself alive
And I caught you then in your moment of glory
Your last dramatic scene against a night sky stage
With a moment so clear that it's as if you're still before me
My once in a lifetime star of an age
So fare thee well my bright star
Last night the tongues of fire circled me around
And this strange season of pain will come to pass
When the healing hands of autumn cool me down
I watched your taillights blaze into nothingness
But you were long gone before I ever got to you
Before you blazed past this address
But never know what it feels like to never love
Who can say what's better when my heart's become the cost
A mere token of a brighter jewel sent from above
The vanity of youth the color of your eyes
And maybe if I'd fanned the blazing fire of your day-to-day
Or if I'd been older I'd been wise

When the healing hands of autumn cool me down

One of the saddest songs I know; it is about being afraid of love and getting scared off by a passionate love ... "To thick the heat off those long summer evenings" ... she felt vulnerable and grew emotionally distant until the love left.
@EZEebs, You are WAY off. This song is about being in love with someone who is bi-polar. She is so in love with her, but the person does not stay, and she know it wouldn't last: "Fare thee well, my bright star; I watched your taillights blaze into nothingness. But you were long gone before I ever got to you—Before you blazed past this address."

Does not know if it's worth the cost, but she know it's her heart that shall be broken: "And now I think of having loved and having lost—you never know what...

She thinks, what if I was everything she needed, or smarter? "Maybe if I'd fanned the blazing fire of your day-to-day? Or if I'd been older, or I'd been wise?" But no, this girl needs someone as volatile: "But you could only feed upon the things which feed a fire—waiting to see if I would burn."
But it was great; "It was a brief, brilliant miracle dive; and that which I looked up to, and I clung to for dear life had to burn itself up just to make itself alive. And I caught you then in your moment of glory, your last dramatic scene against a night sky stage."
It is through her faith in God that she will make it without her: "Last night the tongues of fire circled me around. And this strange season of pain will come to pass, when the healing hands of autumn cool me down."
It s a song abot a love lost that didn't work out. Like a she loved the other person, but it did not work out. She realizes that it's over and she's better for loving and losing. And that maybe it was over before it began. Like maybe she doubts if that person loved her as much as she loved them. ( the waay we all do whn a relationship ends. "Fare thee well my bright star It was a brief brilliant miracle dive That which I looked up to and I clung to for dear life Had to burn itself up just to make itself alive"
I completely agree with sugarbear0530 on this one!!
I think it describes an intense love lost over substance abuse or addiction issues and the unpredictability of loving someone with those issues. \'Too thick the heat of those warm summer evenings, for a cooler evening I began to yearn\'. About being tired of the constant drama that comes with that and wanting some relief from that. \n\'Had to burn itself up just to make itself alive.\'..Also speaks to that. And she\'s happy to have felt that love and lost rather than not ever feeling it at all.
I don't know what this song really means but to me it seems to be about a lover who has died. Probably from a degenerative disease "I watched your tail lights blaze into nothingness." My favorite verse is So fare thee well my bright star Last night the tongues of fire circled me around And this strange season of pain will come to pass When the healing hands of autumn cool me down
