Indigo Girls probably meant to knock the beer and the TV as futile escapes, but what I like about it is the way it captures failure, when your life doesn't go the way you'd hoped, the money's tight, and all you want to do is shut it out somehow.
This song is about getting stuck and being frustrated at how you may want more but you get smacked by real life. I think it should be played on country radio. The theme is perfect. I bet the Dixie chicks would make a kickass version of it.
