Easy Wind Lyrics

I been balling a shiny black steel jack-hammer,
been chippin' up rocks for the great highway,
live five years if I take my time,
ballin' that jack and a drinkin' my wine.
I been chippin' them rocks from dawn till doom,
while my rider hide my bottle in the other room.
Doctor say better stop ballin' that jack,
if I live five years I gonna bust my back, yes I will.
Easy wind cross the Bayou today
cause there's a whole lotta women, mama,
out in red on the streets today.
And the rivers keep a talkin',
but you never heard a word it said.
Gotta find a woman be good to me,
won't hide my liquor try to serve me tea,
cause I'm a stone jack baller and my heart is true
and I'll give everything that I got to you, yes I will.
Easy wind going cross the Bayou today
there's a whole lotta women
out in red on the streets today.
And the rivers keep a talkin',
but you never heard a word it said.

And who doesn't love a good Pigpen song?

It's about a hard workin' man...from the LP "Workingman's Dead". The narrator is workin' for the highway and drinks too much. His boss and his woman hide his liquor so he can work. His doctor wants him to quit, but his boss and his woman want him to keep working. He has a really hard life and is fed up, but there are some prostitutes that are tempting him.

That's his dilemma.

"while my rider hide my bottle in the other room. " Who's this rider referred to? I've heard the dead mention a rider before.

it's a nickname for a prostitute, which comes from blues from the Mississippi delta. This song mentions bayou so.. it might not be that much of a stretch.

@pigpen123 Rider; As per 'strap hanger', a lady friend or wife that steps or rides on his toes while dancing eg 'Ballin' the Jack' or figuratively, the same except she 'cramps his style' through her demanding ways including being an impediment to his alcohol abuse.
