Blow Away Lyrics
A man and a woman come together as strangers.
When they part they're usually strangers still.
It's like a practical joke played on us by our Maker.
Empty bottles that can't be filled.
(Chorus):
Baby, who's to say it coulda' been different
Now that it's done.
Baby, who's to say...
Baby, who's to say that it shoulda' been anyway.
Baby, who's to say...
Baby, who's to say that it even matters in the long run.
Baby, who's to say.
Give it just a minute.
And it'll blow away.
It'll blow away.
You fancy me to be the Master of your feelings.
You barely bruise me with your looks to kill.
Though I admit we were sometimes brutal in our dealings,
I never held you against your will.
(Chorus):
Your case against me is so very clean stated.
I plead no contest,
I just turn and shrug.
I've come to figure all importance overestimated.
You must mean water when you get on your knees and beg for blood.
(Chorus):
Like a feather in the whirlwind,
Just as surely as the world spins.
It'll blow away,
Ohhh, It'll blow.
Give it just a minute,
Give it just a minute now, it'll blow away...
When they part they're usually strangers still.
It's like a practical joke played on us by our Maker.
Empty bottles that can't be filled.
(Chorus):

There's not much to interpret here. Brent's lyrics are typically pretty straight-forward and usually involve heart break, misery and a bit of anger/distrust for the woman in question. That said, this song is beautiful and powerful.
Brent killed himself after his divorce was final and he lost custody of his child. I agree, not much to interpret here... just a broken, bitter blues... and the knowledge (or belief) that a little faith and patience (and music) would change things for the better.
@SHtRO I'm not sure about suicide, but it's hard to say. Brent overdosed on a speedball, which was considered accidental.

This one's a bummer.
The best version of this song I heard was live on 3/26/90. You can find it on Dozin' At the Knick, disc one. About half way through, Brent said "Wait a Minute" and the song briefly stops. Billy put his sticks in his mouth and looked like a walrus, while Brent sat shaking his lowered head. He knew it had gotten screwed up but he wasn't done. Jerry must have intuited that, because he started it up again- repeating the guitar melody- which turned into an extended improvisation. Then Brent completely went off and gave an amazing performance. I forever had a new appreciation for the song and its sentiment.
