Leaving Town Lyrics
Oh your reputation's so golden You're never lonely and you're never home
I know you've been talking about leaving You've lost all your feeling for this town
Paint your nails and put on your lipstick You don't want to miss your ticket out
Just because you graduate from school so high in the gene pool, that's your point of view
but when you're broken down and no one else is around
you'll come running back to this town and I'll be there, yeah I'll be there
'cause I remember how we drank time together
and how you used to say that the stars are forever
and daydreamed about how to make your life better
by leaving town, leaving town
Pack your bags, your smokes in your pocket You're wearing my locket around your neck
Take a drag and wait for the Greyhound The world is your playground and you want to win
but when you're broken down and no one else is around
you'll come running back to this town and I'll be there, yeah I'll be there
'cause I remember how we drank time together
and how you used to say that the stars are forever
and daydreamed about how to make your life better
by leaving town, leaving town
Nothing in life will ever come that easy
Doesn't mean it has to be that hard
I know you will find out who you are...
but when you're broken down and no one else is around
you'll come running back to this town and I'll be there, yeah I'll be there
'cause I remember how we drank time together
and how you used to say that the stars are forever
and daydreamed about how to make your life better
by leaving town, leaving town

One of my all-time favorite songs. Great lyrics, upbeat music, very easy to identify with. ^_^
Hey, that's great to hear. I thought no one really knew this song cause everytime i'd mention it to someone, they're like "who?". Well this song reminds me of a time not too long ago when I just wanted to drop everything at home. All responsibilities, relationships, memories. I just wanted to get up and leave but then i realized it was all about myself and not everything else. So this song makes me think of who i used to be and how i used to feel.
Last year I tried to move away but I couldnt right off and every time I heard this song it made me cry hard. it was right though, moving away DID make me find out who I was. too bad it didnt work! LOL
this song reminds me of someone trying to get away from home by leaving for college "Just because you graduate from school so high in the gene pool, that's your point of view"....and when all goes wrong your best friend who you left behind, will be there for you once again "you'll come running back to this town and I'll be there, yeah I'll be there"...i absolutely love this song
I love this song too. And yeah, not many people have heard of it--the only reason I know is becuz there's a local radio station who plays it a lot...But yeah its great. I think it might not be about college, but about 2 people, after they graduate high school. They've probably been living in the same town most of their lives, and one of them's dying to get out, leaving their friend behind...and so on. I think this song was on the "Tomcats" soundtrack...I think...some movie during the ending credits anyway.
oh my gosh. I always forget how much I like this song ...
anyhow. this is a terrific song about, yeah, trying to escape your past in hopes of a better future. it's about love and waiting for someone.
"i remember how we drank time together and how you used to say that the stars are forever"
