Buffalo Soldier Lyrics
Co-written by Bob Marley and N.G. Williams, aka King Sporty. The song recounted the true story of four post-Civil War regiments of the U.S. Army - the 9th and 10th Cavalry and the 24th and 25th Infantry. These units were composed of black privates under the command of white brass, who fought for a quarter century against the Cheyenne, Comanche, Kiowa, Apache, Ute and Sioux. In the end, fourteen key black campaigners, whom the Indians had dubbed "buffalo soldiers," were awarded the Medal of Honor as part of a public relations move to justify and glorify the genocide of Native Americans, underlining the U.S. government's policy of manifest destiny. Such were the ploys that, then as now, comprised the politics of neutralization.
I always thought Bob was saying "Dreadlock Rasta" not "Rock Star." Am I crazy or are these lyrics correct? Hmm... Peace
i believe he is saying dreadlock rasta. makes it better that way anyhow, i hate it when u hear a song and for ages u think its saying something its not. like this for instance. but i do think its "dreadlock rasts". :). peace all :)
Marley was more then just a a great musician. To the Rastafarian ppl, he was a political figure. One of the main aims of the Rastafarian people is to remind the blacks in America of the shackles that held them down for so many years. "If you know your history, then you would know where your comming from" Marley is trying to remind ppl how important it is to not forget your roots. To the Rasta's Ethiopia is considered the "holy land" The Rastafarian culture is a very young and interesting religion that originated in the 1930's. Most of Marleys songs reflect some of his beliefs and if you learn about the the Rastafarian culture and way of life, the meanings of Marleys songs will become much more clear and powerful.

dreadlock rasta :) .....
amen for bob marley, without all of his song a message of peace wouldnot reach our people and the people of the world, i dont think that it is important weather he really said dreadlock rasta or rockstar the only thing that is important is that you get the message he tried to send all of us and that you recieve the message with open minds.........
peace
dreadlock rasta im positive
When I first heard this song I thought it was about a hunter from africa who was enslaved and brought to america where he basically had to suffer through injustice and while he was a great warrior back home he was nothing but a slave here. But of course like many of Marley's songs there is never one right answer.
