Loud Lyrics

You win, I quit
I'm certain you let my hands
Wander your hips…
Just to leave me desperate now

I remember your thread thin arms
I remember your hands
And how easily it seemed to me
That they could rip me open

Baby, I'm falling away
Baby, I'm falling away

Wasted my Septembers with you stuck up in my head
Raced the days closed in the hopes that the mornings would swell again

Don't offer me rewards dear, that's a weight that I don't need
I've seen stronger men draped over your shoulder
So filled with praises, to drunk to leave

Baby, I'm falling away
Baby, I'm falling away

You were always good at putting words together
About how you always liked me better when I never came around
You were always good at putting words together
And wearing them loud

This is such a sad song. She's "falling away" even though they love each other. "you always liked me better when i never came around" giving me the impression that they only loved the idea of each other, not what/who they really were though. "I'm certain you let my hands/Wander your hips…/Just to leave me desperate now " thats not enough for them to stay with each other. Never is ,hopefully never will be enough for anyone.

Have you ever heard this song as a duet? I think it sounds so much better when he has a girl singing the lines "Baby, I'm falling away." This song always gets to me!

Actually, I've only heard it as a duet. I absolutely love it. I had no idea it was even Matt, my friend put it on a mix CD for me. Does anyone know who it is that he's singing with in the duet? Anyways, this song reminds me of almost breaking up with my boyfriend/ soulmate when he decided to move away. It fit the mood and the situation perfectly and really got me through it. It's amazing how music can do that for you. Thank God we're still together.

Old comment that I'm replying to, but Matt is singing with Ellen Turner (member of the band Dudley, also did some work on Toad the Wet Sprocket's album Fear), and it's a great tune. He hasn't played it much lately, but it's always a great one to hear live.

so there's a version only sung by him?, what album is that on?

with Ingrid Michaelson ... I love this version :)

I'm replying three plus years too late, but the version Matt recorded was not just him - it was him and Ellen Turner. You can find it on his "Still Waiting for Spring" album that was released in 1999. It sounds a lot different because it was before he did a major label release. It's still totally worth it though!

I also love the version with Ingrid Michaleson but I've only ever found it on YouTube and just the one video.
