Pow Wow Lyrics

Christopher Columbus discovered America
Found he had a cornucopia
Gave love to the indians, they gave it back
A pow woo in the teepee is where it's at

I want to dance with you ...

The indian fought with his arrow and bow
Till General Custer lost to Sitting Bull
Scalped all day and scalped all night
Give me fire water, gonna buy me a wife

I want to dance with you ...

When your people first moved to our block
Our ancestors met with culture shock
Two different monkees from two different trees
Come on let's stop our fightin' and come dance with me

I want to dance with you ...

Cover art for Pow Wow lyrics by Lou Reed

This song is about love. When I started going with someone who was part Native American, we had different histories and backgrounds. Things I still don’t understand happened. We were thrust into a connection beyond negativity. Today we spoke for the first time in ten years, and these lyrics popped into my head and I had no clue why. So tried to find out the song name and found it, sent it to her, and texted them good night. They never heard it before, I think but the important part is that me wanting to dance with them, and knowing on some level to find this song and send it to than after we just agreed to get together for dinner, felt like one of those actions that is love. This world is falling apart and we have problems with everybody trying to tell each other how to live and explain why they have to follow their commands. If we don’t get back to keeping peace, stop all our our fighting, and get along, we all lose. We should be dancing instead. Good night.
