Casual Sex Lyrics
Casual sex
Is it irrational? (Yes!)
I think it's time to find out why
And soon I fall asleep, it's nighttime
In a dream there's a dolphin
And a soldier, they're walking
Through the sand and toward a morgue
In an office there's a hostess who has
Carried our friend
And wheeled him into a drawer
She pulls his file
The air is cold
Down the aisle we follow her
I'm thinking casual sex - the feeling
Casual sex - the soldier's life's the same as mine
And he's attracted to a nun
But the feeling of sex is nothing possible yet
A new wave soldier's standing next to a young nun
The nun just has to pace
Her gothic skirt over her legs
They're getting warmer toward the insides
And their tops
"The inexistence of time" is not a painting, it's life
They're into robes and gloves
Goblet glass and crosses
The feeling of sex is nothing possible yet
A new wave soldier is standing next to a young nun
The sound of her voice
And the handle of the robe
Are getting thinner as the whip begins to speak
The nun just strikes a pose
The soldier's helmet hits the floor
He's walking backward
Until he's pinned against stained glass
Is it irrational? (Yes!)

first 20 seconds is just.. annoying, the rest is alright. not their best work.
I think this is a really great song. If you just downloaded the song then yeah, the first 20 seconds will be annoying, but the first 20 seconds is actually part of the track before it, "Cars Pass In Cold Blood" . . . so I suggest buying their cd.
Good song.
" the soldier's life's the same as mine and he's attracted to a nun"
i think that part is referencing Hemingway's "A Farewell to Arms" in which the soldier falls for the nurse/nun and they have a casual affair, she wants more commitment, but she still gives in.
... by the way, the first twenty seconds only make the song more thrilling! how could a faint listener not appreciate the sound of analog synths + drums doing their more intense stuff?... oh well. :)
Darling, In A Farewell to Arms Frederic Henry does not fall in love with a nun, thus making it a bit far fetched that the Faint lyric is an allusion to Hemingway. They have no casual affair; they fall in love and have a baby, although it dies. Catherine is the one who does not want to marry Frederic, as well. If Catherine Barkley is a nun, I doubt she would have sex with Frederic Henry in the first place. Read the book over.
I think the beginning is absolutely brilliant. It's so chaotic and then all of a sudden it stops and you're led into an amazing song.
this song sounds like its about the kinky/role-playing types of sex. where "casual" refers to 'regular' types of sex
As it may seem to be about kinkyness at first, I now totally believe this song is about the narrator's urge for casual sex being suppressed by religion. When asking if casual sex is irrational, he is told yes. The feeling of sex is nothing possible, perhaps because there is no way the narrator will ever be able to hit up a nun. (thats way too sinful)
"they're into robes and gloves, goblet glass and crosses." they're religious folk, he'll never get any with them.
"the sound of her voice, and the handle of the robe are getting thinner as the whip begins to speak"
the beautiful attributes of this lady are disappearing (getting thinner), because the whip (religion), is telling him that these desires are wrong.
"the nun just strikes a pose. the soldier's helmet hits the floor. he's walking backward until he's pinned against stained glass."
the narrator is taken back by this ladies beauty, but he can't escape the boundaries of church rule. (stained glass=thwe windows in church.)
on a completely different note, I saw the faint in Philly last night, it was fucking amazing!!!!!! :mosh:
Yes, it makes sense about being divided by religion. But in the end I think it's not just about the soldier, it's about both of them. And the ending seems to make me think that the Nun finally goes against the church and decides to have sex with the guy.
"the sound of her voice, and the handle of the robe are getting thinner as the whip begins to speak"
Seems like, her voice is getting softer, and her robe is coming undone.
I really don't know, Faint kicks.
