Whimsical Lyrics

I can see the orange sky in front of me
I can see things you'll never see
People say it's all a dream
But I can say words you couldn't speak
Is it me
can you believe
You'll never live the world I live
Is it me
It is only me
I can only live a world to live

Break away from you
shattered beliefs
Detaching from my body
desperate in grief
I have changed the world in front of me
One against all
I'm starving this world

Is it me
do you want me
You think you can have me
Say you love me
you want me
I'm saving my money
'cause I don't pay to breathe

I'm not afraid to live / I'm not afraid to die
I can only give what I see inside
You can only take what I give of me
You can only win when I'm not afraid to lose

Subjected to you mother of nature / limited to the color of your eyes
Drained by the one you call your lover / She don't care if you live or die
Well don't have a problem / I evolved / Sometimes there's always problems

I stand above

I believe the song is about being an isolationist in relationships (friends, lovers, etc.), hiding your entire self from the other person... however, in effect, creating two personas. One persona is your "stage" persona, and the other created of more personal things. Allowing yourself to be vulnerable to other people is a very hard thing to do.

i've always said, "this is how i feel about women." and the lyric is "people say it's all a fucking dream." i think it's about being true to your own self, beliefs, what have you, in spite of what others tell you. however it could simply be about drugs or religion or both. anywho... great song. open for interpretation.

I can see the orange sky in front of me. 20 years ago I thought that meant a sunset or sunrise. I have recently seen an orange sky, or ceiling to be exact. I k kW understand why he felt his band was holding him back. He was in touch with the Holy Spirit and forgiveness. It never made sense why he would separate himself from this band when it seemed so magically perfect until I experienced the orange sky in front of me. I wish I could write less literally. It pushes people away more than draws em in when open ended. Can I get a hell yeah?

This is my favorite song, hands down, and their (or really Travis Meeks') 1st album is also my favorite album of all time. He released that album at age 17, meaning he wrote all those songs, music and lyrics when he was just a kid. I really connect to his lyrics and I'm humbled by his complexity and creativeness at such a young age.

What follows is my interpretation of Whimsical's lyrics. Please keep in mind that I may be a tad bit crazy, at least compared to what's considered 'normal' lol....

1st verse and chorus:

He's explaining how he sees and experiences the world, which he has clearly found is not shared or understood by the majority of the world's ppl. "Ppl say its all a fukking dream...", when he tries to talk to others about his feelings, beliefs, experiences, ppl shun him and call him crazy. Thus the "... Is it me? It 'is' only me". He's all alone in this world and he knows he'll forever be isolated.

2nd verse, and extended chorus:

He has to escape, to get away from the world. Because although the world doesn't understand him, he also doesn't understand the world. He's expected to fall in line, do what he's told, believe what he's told, act like he's told.... "One against all, I'm starving this world".... I can relate. The ppl of this world are naive and blind to what's really going on around them... expected behaviors, and culture in general is nonsensical and unacceptable for him. Relationships with others don't work, and he's learned to interact as little as possible ".... Do u want me?..You think u can have me??..." Not a chance....

All that being said, he's ofc still saddened and grief-stricken by his loneliness. But he won't let the world change him, he is who he is, and he's unwilling to conform. If the world thinks he's crazy, f**k the world, cuz he sees it for what it is, and THE WORLD is what's crazy. I wholeheartedly agree!

3rd verse and chorus:

This one is a bit more specific I think. U are judged by how u look, how u speak, ur race, ur gender... "Subjected to you mother nature, Limited to the color of your eyes..." Ppl are hurt, limited, and sometimes destroyed by the things they hold dear, are attached to, are addicted to, etc. Even when they know it's hurting them or it's complete nonsense, ppl continue the 'thing'. I've done it myself, countless times.... human nature is hard to bear...."Drained by the one you call your lover, she don't care If u live or die..."

The outro lyrics:

Quite literal I think. There are always problems, he's accepted that this is his reality, and he's chosen to not allow the ever existent problems of the world overwhelm him and make his whole life problematic. He sees the truth, tries to deal with his problems, and knows that many times we ourselves are the source of most of our problems. Change urself if u can and must. Have the wisdom to change what u can, and the strength to accept and bear what u cannot.

My Interpretation

@dwgloverjr Very detailed examination. I would say that you look at "THE WORLD" like Travis does, or did.
