You Need Me

A cheating lover doesn't want their partner to leave them because they have no one else... and neither does the other.

There seem to be a recurring theme with Swans songs that have Jarboe as vocal in it that sounds like they're about obsessive psychopathic lover (see Hypogirl and Blood and Honey). I personally don't think that this song is simply about a cheating lover who regrets. Given the atmosphere that it exudes, the overall theme of the album and the recurring theme that I mentioned, I believe there is something more sinister about this song than just a simple cheating conflict.

She's sorry, sorry for what? In Hypogirl it sounds like she's expressing her desire to kill her lover out of insane obsession for him, and then in Blood and Honey it sounds like the lover is killed and she commits suicide as she lie with him (We'll lie down in the warm green grass/And the sun will shine on our pale shape/Our blood will flow black in the dirt/And a black rose will grow where we laid).

I'd like to believe that this song is the moment in between Hypogirl and Blood and Honey. This is about the moment when she realised what she has done and in her insanity she begged for forgiveness to her dead lover.
