This song is interesting. She's fed up with the relationship and they are never on the same page (one is always awake and one is always asleep). They are never awake together or asleep together. But it makes them comlplete. Opposites attract, and that is what she is metaphorically depicting in this song.

actually, Kay Hanley herself has said that the song is about former lovers meeting face to face after a breakup, and wondering what they ever saw in each other and realizing breaking up was truly was the bestdecision.
