Mother Mary Lyrics
Like Elvis, like everyone
We all die, we all live on in photos
and paperbacks, if we're lucky
we're coming back
Mother Mary over, over
Mother Mary over
over me
We notice
We understand
We throw out all we can
We're on the market, we're up on racks
If we're really lucky we're coming back
I would never decide
Mother Mary over, over
Mother Mary over
over me
We all die, we all live on in photos
and paperbacks, if we're lucky
we're coming back
Mother Mary over
over me
We understand
We throw out all we can
We're on the market, we're up on racks
If we're really lucky we're coming back
I would never decide
Mother Mary over, over
Mother Mary over
over me

I'm not about to assume I know what the song is about but my favorite lines are "We're on the market, we're up on racks if we're really lucky we're comin' back". Says something to me. I dont know what.
What an amazing song.
thursday covered this song live and it was nuts
reincarnation?
i've heard this live alot and the best times were when jonah sang it with Geoff Rickley while Thursday played and Geoff added some stuff...damn that was good
Yeah, Thursday covered it with Jonah at Hellfest 2003. The performance is on the dvd and it's my favorite.
brilliant song
I just think this song is about how wereall gonna die someday. MAybe it's also about reincarnation. Not totally sure though.
Jonah's lyrics are always so over-analyzed. I find that he presents his points in a very straight-forward manner. The meaning isn't always immediately obvious, but it quickly becomes obvious with only a few listens.
With this song, I can say with confidence that he is making a point about the music industry and fame in general and his involvement within it. Mother Mary, Elvis...they are both famous and universally recognized. They will never be forgotten.
Artists like Jonah with only a desire to create music would never willingly decide on and consciously seek out fame...neither did Mother Mary nor Elvis. He is suggesting that being dead and forgotten is not such a bad thing..."Mother Mary over me"...I don't care about fame and being remembered.
