A favored image of another world
Is nothing in particular now
And imitation comes naturally
But I never really stop to think how
And everyone is a clever clone
A chrome covered clone, am I
So in the absence of a way of life
Just repeat this again and again
And again
Hey, hey, come out tonight
Hey, hey, come out tonight
Popscene
Alright
I'm leaving town to run away
Run into your twisted arms
No queues and there's no panic there
Just dangling my feet in the grass
My lack of natural luster now
Seems to be losing me friends
So in the absence of a way of life
I'll repeat this again and again
And again
Hey hey, come out tonight
Hey hey, come out tonight
Popscene
Hey, hey, come out tonight
Hey, hey, come out tonight
Popscene
Alright
Hey, hey, come out tonight
Hey, hey, come out tonight
Popscene
Is nothing in particular now
And imitation comes naturally
But I never really stop to think how
And everyone is a clever clone
A chrome covered clone, am I

Britpop's first single? Yep. This is basically the single that started/predicted the whole dismal thing. All the elements where in place (partying and following others) and Damon saw this before anyone else did. Clever lad. Too clever. The Oasis fan's couldn't stand Blur's intellectuallism and one of the most overblown periods in music history passed by at light speed.
Fantasic tune- this song created hailed britpop and it's been lost in the archives which is such a shame :(
It's such an angry song; it exposes raw anger about the shitness of teen culture.
I love the video! I watch it everyday on my DVD!
"And everyone is a clever clone A chrome-covered clone am I"
Obviously speaks to the derivative tradition of pop music. A tradition that would be very much at the centre of Britpop.
I don't think it's a coincidence that the first Britpop single featured Damon's best lyrics yet. A major step forward from some of the stuff he wrote on LEISURE. The entire band had a new maturity at that point, I think. They'd found their direction.
Here here Dougievile! I grew up with Blur and was one of 2 out of approx 50 Oasis fans. And their ignorance was amazing! You never saw Blur fans trying to dress and look like Damon. It was, as far as i'm concerned, an intelligence matter. I had lads 5 years older than me trying to be Liam, surely u grow out of that kind of thing at junior school! btw Popscene is just another example of Blurs diversity.
a lost classic. never played enough love this song so much
