The Frug Lyrics

And I can do the Frug
I can do the Robocop
I can do the Freddie
I cannot do the Smurf

And I can hate your girl
I can tell you that she's real pretty
I can take my clothes off
I cannot fall in love

And I can do the Frug
I can do the Robocop
I can do the Freddie
I cannot do the Smurf

And I can watch TV
I can shuffle off to Buffalo
I can do a backbend
I will not call you back

And I can start a book
I can make some mac and cheese
I can sleep twelve hours
You'll never see my eyes

And I can do the Frug
I can do the Robocop
I can do the Freddie
I cannot do the Smurf

And I can hate your girl
I can tell you that she's real pretty
I can take my clothes off
I cannot fall in love
You'll never see my eyes
I will not call you back
I cannot do the Smurf
I cannot fall in love
I'll never fall in love
I cannot fall in love

go rent a movie called "troop beverly hills" starring shelly long and this song will become like twenty times cooler. jenny was in it when she was like 12 or something. anyway, in it she learns to do the frug and the freddie. i don't know where the robocop comes from, though. sigh...when i marry jenny i'll ask her to come and explain all her songs to everyone on here.

remaining emotionally unattached, and not wanting too, or not being able to, if you think about it, all those old dances, the frug, and whatnot, or think of the tango or whatever, some dance, you and your partner, especially with the tango, its a dance of love, which you make other people believe you are in, by your dancing, but its not real.

what a great song.

To the Person asking where you can find this songs - it's on the Motion Picture Soundtrack Desert Blue. You can also find it on thier debut album, The Initial Friend E.P. To those asking what exactly The Frug, The Robocop and The Smurf are, well they all were novelty/fad dances once apon a time.
The Frug was born from a dance called the Chicken which had a lateral body movement and was used as a change of pace during the twist. So as the kids grew lazier they decided to do less work, and started moving only their hips while standing still. As the hips swing from side to side they started making up arm movements for the dance. From this came the Swim, the Monkey, the Dog, the Watusi, the Waddle or Wabble and the Jerk. Some of these dances are named with localities. What we call the Frug is often called the Surf, Big Bea and Thunderbird, with the Swim being born out of it. What we call the Watusi is also known as Wabble and Waddle. The Monkey, Dog, Bump and Jerk fall roughly into the same category. The Smurf is a dance that originated with the cartoon. As for how to do the robocop, I suggest you so what others on this board have said - watch Troop Beverly Hills for all your questions to be answered.

Twee-pop often uses overt sweetness or cuteness or frivolousness to mask very deep melancholy. I think that's what Jenny's doing here. To me, this is a stylistic choice meant to aid in the juxtaposition of these mundane activities with the very real and painful "I cannot fall in love, you'll never see my eyes..." This is self-preservation. It's feigned sweetness masking some serious cynicism and fear. This is a heartbreaking song.

What a range Jenny has. She made a very conscious decision as her career progressed to confront her sadness and to sing more openly and honestly about her vices and her hang-ups. There's a clear shift from the resigned cynicism of youth (The Frug) to the more constructive and necessary use of music as a tool to confront our demons as we age (More Adventurous, I Never, Acid Tongue, Just One of the Guys). Both are valuable, because they speak to us at different stages in our life.

i love the end- "You'll never see my eyes. I will not call you back. I cannot do the Smurf. I cannot fall in love. I'll never fall in love. I cannot fall in love."

how it just ends make the song so much better, cause it's like throughout the entire song you're waiting for something and then it comes at the end really strongly
