Plane Crash in C Lyrics
If you're scared and it shows
Because you're watching them grow
And travelling blows when you're out of road
And when you jump up, the earth wants you back
Your resentment grows until you're all alone
But you're so smart, how could they not know?
When you're standing there in good-humoured white
How do you do it and make it seem effortless?
When it's all the stupid things, so overwhelming to me
Like paying my bills, or showing up for work early
Or laughing at your jokes
And when you first said that anything goes
Or a problem's a task disguised in work clothes
That's when I knew that I had to move
And why do you do it and make it seem delicate?
When it's all the stupid things, so damn confusing to me
Like talking it through, controlling my temper
Like letting it go, saying, "Please, forgive me
For laughing at your jokes"
I have no idea what's going on lately
And I just wish you would come over and explain things
And I have on idea what's going on lately
And I just wish you would come over and explain things
And I have no idea what's been going on lately
And I just wish you would come over and explain things
And why do they do it? They show up anyway
When they know that damn well
There's no room for promotions out here
And maybe it's wise
And maybe I'm just stupid
For laughing at your jokes
Because you're watching them grow
And travelling blows when you're out of road
And when you jump up, the earth wants you back
But you're so smart, how could they not know?
When you're standing there in good-humoured white
When it's all the stupid things, so overwhelming to me

this song is about me. plain and simple.
because i relate so much to it, this is what it means to me:
i have a lot of anxieties, and it's insanely hard for me to do simple little things like go to the store and buy milk or go to a party or just keep my life together. i feel like the main character has difficulties doing little things like that, and she watches everyone else in her life pull them off so easily, and she feels like they're maybe flaunting it.
but yeah, maybe it's just me.
Actually, this is just "Plane Crash in C", "Variations on a Theme (Plane Crash in C)" has no words, it's just a small horn part of the song that they added on.
i love this song. it jumps from one thing to another, all sad and true. rilo kiley kicks ass
suprising so few have commented as this is such a gd song of theirs. It's so reassuring to listen to when you're pissed off as id comforting yet truthful. I don't think it has a particular subject more that it just sums up life and all the problems with it.
the horn section makes me unbelievably happy.
fuck yes
fuck yes
this is one of rilo's bestest songs, but for some reason, not everyone's heard it yet. top 5 for me.
to me this song is the narrator being preached at by one of those know-it-all types who is making her feel like she's an idiot for not behaving the same way they do. they're talking about all of the ways she's in the wrong, all the while not even touching on the things that they have done wrong themselves, and she's like "I get it, you think those things are what's wrong with me, but I have no idea what the fuck your problem is, and I wish you'd just come over and explain THAT!"<p><b><i>Edited by delial on May 28 2008, at 02:26AM</i></b></p>
I somewhat agree with delial, but i believe that this song is referencing a father-figure. I came to this conclusion based off the first verse.

This reminds me of an senior citizen father who travels the country in an RV with his step wife in their retirement. While traveling the father begins to realized that his children have all grown up. He begins to regret the mistakes...
This reminds me of an senior citizen father who travels the country in an RV with his step wife in their retirement. While traveling the father begins to realized that his children have all grown up. He begins to regret the mistakes that he made while his children were young and now his kids resent him for it, thus not contacting him that is why he is all alone.
The narrator is reminiscing about all of the things that bothered her about her father. Towards the end of the song the narrator realizes that she misses her father, this is emphasized in the lines-
"I have no idea what's going on lately And I just wish you would come over and explain things"
Although she doesn't formally ask her father to come explain things, I think at the end of the song he show up to see her. I think that he might even want to move in with her and try to work but as the lyrics state-
"And why do they do it? They show up anyway When they know that damn well There's no room for promotions out here"
to me this song reminds me a lot of my grandfather, he was always hard on me as a child, which lead me to resent him. now in his old age he is trying to reconcile things with me. It is tough to forget the things that happened in the past.
The horn section makes me smile :)
I think it's about laughing at someone's jokes even though they talk down to you. It seems sarcastic, the way she is told how to do things at work, and then says they should explain her personal life as well...
Freaking great song. athough its "good humored white" not "wides" It's a reference to old The Good Humor Ice cream truck drivers. All in white :-)
prettiest voice , awesome song
