Clover Over Dover Lyrics
I'm on the white cliffs of dover
Thinking it over and over
But if I jump its all over
A cautionary tale for you
I'd like to roll in the clover
With you over and over
On the white cliffs of dover
And then i'd let you push me over
(chorus)
And if that is the fact then in actual fact it's not where it's at and it's over
And if that is the fact then in actual fact it's not where it's at and it's over
Yes it is
And now the bluebirds are over
Over the white cliffs of dover
So when you push me over
Don't bury me i'm not worth anything
(chorus)
Thinking it over and over
But if I jump its all over
A cautionary tale for you
I'd like to roll in the clover
With you over and over
On the white cliffs of dover
And then i'd let you push me over
(chorus)
And if that is the fact then in actual fact it's not where it's at and it's over
And if that is the fact then in actual fact it's not where it's at and it's over
Yes it is
And now the bluebirds are over
Over the white cliffs of dover
So when you push me over
Don't bury me i'm not worth anything
(chorus)

This song is about a person that has basically lost all hope. He's worthlessly and hopefully in love with someone so much that he wishes to have just one instant with her, but she doesn't seem interested. He's on the verge of suicide, and if he could only make love to her once he would be glad to kill himself immediately afterwards.
Buckwilder got it pretty much :]
I gotta say I love Graham's part in the vocals in this song... They don't say them so I'll put 'em lol. In my band I always sung this part :D:
"I'm floating away, Spent twenty years upon the sea. And when I come back, I found that you took care to me."
Luv it.
Ace song.
After some personal experience, it seems like the the last verse or so could be a metaphor for a relationship. Like maybe... pushing him over is her lett him down, maybe by breaking up or saying she doesn't want to be with him or something, and he's telling her not to worry about him because he's not worth it.
MattJamesR - I hate to tell you this but you've been singing the wrong words! Don't ask me how I know but the hidden verse ends with
"I found that you turned into me"
I totally agree. Love this song.
i third that!! it disturbs me to hear damon talk of jumping off a cliff though... NO DAMON NOOOOO! :)
This is my favourite song on Parklife. It's just a great song to listen to first thing in the morning for no reason at all.
This was freaky, I was in the car listening to this song and right at the "I'd let you push me over" part, I saw one of those little highway memorials for people who were killed in a car crash. It was kinda freaky...
I have to agree with you Buckwilder i think you're spot on with that interpretation of the song
Beautiful song - reminds me very much of the riff in The Smiths' "Big Mouth Strikes Again". Did Coxon borrow this riff- because if your going to 'borrow' you might as well choose from the best?! Any one else agree?
