Damn (What a Beautiful Man) Lyrics
I go out of my way
To stop and say hello
To a man who doesn't know my name
In a shop I don't usually don't go
He always asks me how is it going
And I always copy his phrase
I always copy his words in my mind
And think about them for days
And damn what a beautiful man
Damn what a beautiful man
Damn what a beautiful man
Damn what a beautiful man
And he makes me wanna look good
He makes me feel at ease
And he makes me want to write true songs
About anything that I please
And I feel no need to go flying
My heterosexual cape
Baby, I don't want his body
I just want to sit and talk all night
Damn what a beautiful man
Damn what a beautiful man
Damn what a beautiful man
Damn what a beautiful man
But if all these things are certain
Somebody tell me why
Whenever I pass him walking
I start batting my eye

Whoa... I could have sworn there were already replies here.
I read them, and I remember them.... Whoa.
Anyway, the song is about Narcissus...
The second and third line in the first verse: He says hello to the man because he's intrigued (thinks he's beautiful) and doesn't know his name, because he is himself! Like looking in a mirror for the first time...
Knowing that, the rest of the song should be understood quite easily.
I don't agree. I think it's exactly how it sounds. He knows a guy who he really loves to be with, and with no sexual desire. This is proven with the line "I don't want to go flying my heterosexual kite (the lyric submitter was mistaken with cape)". The kite means that he doesn't care if it sounds like he's in a homosexual relationship with this man, because he's not, and he's not going to write a song or proclaim in some extreme way that he's a heterosexual.
A think this song is about figuring out how to label how you feel about someone.
