Far Away Eyes Lyrics
I was driving home early sunday morning through bakersfield
Listening to gospel music on the colored radio station
And the preacher said "you know you always have the
Lord by your side"
And i was so pleased to be informed of this that I ran
Twenty red lights in his honor
Thank you Jesus, thank you lord
I had an arrangement to meet a girl, and I was kind of late
And I thought by the time i got there she'd be off, she'd be
Off with the nearest truck driver she could find
Much to my surprise, there she was sittin in the corner
A little bleary, worse for wear and tear
Was a girl with far away eyes
So if you're down on your luck
And you can't harmonize
Find a girl with far away
And if you're downright disgusted
And life ain't worth a dime
Get a girl with far away eyes
Well the preacher kept right on saying that all I had to do was send
10 dollars to the church of the sacred bleeding heart of Jesus,
Located somewhere in Los Angeles, California
And next week they'd say my prayer on the radio and all my
Dreams would come true
So I did, the next week, I got a prayer with a girl
Well, you know what kind of eyes she got
So if you're down on your luck
I know you all sympathize
Find a girl with far away eyes
And if you're downright disgusted
And life ain't worth a dime
Get a girl with far away eyes
Listening to gospel music on the colored radio station
And the preacher said "you know you always have the

In a 1978 interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Jagger said, "You know, when you drive through Bakersfield on a Sunday morning or Sunday evening - I did that about six months ago - all the country music radio stations start broadcasting black gospel services live from L.A. And that's what the song refers to. But the song's really about driving alone, listening to the radio."On influences, Jagger stated "I wouldn't say this song was influenced specifically by Gram (Parsons). That idea of country music played slightly tongue-in-cheek - Gram had that in 'Drugstore Truck Drivin' Man', and we have that sardonic quality, too." Asked by the interviewer if the girl in the song was a real one, Jagger replied, "Yeah, she's real, she's a real girl."

Blues? Are you serious? More Country to me, but hey...whatever is your opinion.
She's there, but she's not there...she's distant and detached...she's a bit doughey...she's not gonna ask questions. She's a bit lost...maybe she can be seen to be someone innocent...someone without as many troubles as you.
That's what I think.
Far away eyes could mean that the woman is distracted enough by other things that she doesn't have long term goals in mind in reference to men. She has other things happening in her life which may contribute to her "bleary" disposition, therefore, taking her full focus off of a man who'd rather not have her full focus in the first place hence the line:
"Find a girl with far away eyes..."
A girl with far away eyes is a girl who can see into your soul and kno how take away ur blues
I'm a big country/bluegrass fan, only recently heard this Stones song, like it a lot...Very catchy tune, interesting lyrics...What does it "mean"? Look for a girl who's got that spacey, ethereal look--a hippie chick--open to new experiences, new adventures, dreams...I could see this song playing over a video of the Scott McKenzie song, "San Francisco."
There is nothing about this song to dislike.
A girl with faraway eyes is a dreamer. She may be stuck in some crap town where only truckers bother to stop, but she sees beyond her world, sees beyond. You always notice her in a crowd because she seems like she's somewhere else, somewhere better, somewhere only she can see. If you can get that girl, she'll change your life, she'll change your luck, she'll turn your world upside down. If you can get the attention of the girl looking off to the horizon, you're someone special. Maybe she'll take you with her, where she's going', if you're lucky. Get a girl with faraway eyes. She'll turn your luck around if you can deserve her. Keep in dreamin'...
@santaanawindsblowin Ummm, can't agree with that. She's no dreamer, more likely a truck stop hooker who is weary of the life, but can't see past her limited options. My 2¢ anyway. Love this song, btw.

If this was a "real" girl, as he states in his interview, it sounds like a case of "she's just not that into you".
Yes, they tried to make a country song and it is good. But what are "far away eyes?"
