Prodigal Son Lyrics

Prodigal Son By Rev. Wilkins Well a poor boy took his father's bread and started down the road Started down the road Took all he had and started down the road Went out of his world, where God only knows And that'll be the way to get along Well poor boy spent all he had, famine swept the land Famine swept the land Spent all he had and famine swept the land Said "I believe I'll go and hire me to some man" And that'll be the way to get along Well, man said "I'll give you a job for to feed my swine For to feed my swine I'll give you a job for to feed my swine" Boy stood there and hung his head and cried 'Cause that is no way to get along Said "I believe I'll ride, believe I'll go back home Believe I'll go back home Believe I'll ride, believe I'll go

This is an easy one, just like the story in the bible. Boy leaves takes dads money. Loses it all comes back and is accepted by his dad. Brother hates him.

the lyrics are based on the bible, but the song itself is an old blues one called "thats no way to get along" by...damn, I forget who exactly..some old-timey black guy....

looked it up, Robert Wilkins he was a pastor so he changed it to prodigal son to make his original son holier, Rolling Stones covered it, thanks for the info man

I love Keith's lyrical contribution right at the end. This is probably the least evil song the Stones ever recorded.

After posting this, I realized... Keith is playing the other, good son. "Hey! Why is HE being honored, for wasting all of your money and screwing up?" Good work, Keith.

I like to Compare this with Nick Cave's "The Good Son"...
