I thought it was about a girl for a long time but kinda switched over to the river idea. I traveled to the Mississippi river and made it to the shores really late at night after a pretty long road trip with my friend. We put the song on and drove as close to the river as we could and it just fit perfectly. You just have to see the river reflect the full moon ...

they call her mississippi( meaning to me this girl is amazing and has a powerful name the kind of name that makes feel when u hear it)

but she dont flow to me( to me this beautiful girl has no intrest in him much less know he's there)

spends her light on the bayou, but see dont come see me( this girl goes out and spends her time and beauty out not w him),(meaning she doesnt hang out w him and probly doesnt even know him)

this song is talking about this girl who he thinks is the perfect match for him she is so beautiful. Everyone sees it and acknowledges her beauty, but as hard as he tries he cannot make her his.

To me, this is a song about someone to good for you. She has her own path, and doesn't stop. You intrigure her for a spell, but she must move on. It's nothing against you just her nature. Be thankful for the break in the storm and look back fondly on the memories, but she is no ones but her own.

i think it can just have the duel meaning, like comparing a love to the river. she's as beautiful as the mississippi, she's the the moon reflected off it and all, but he can flow down the river, but she wont flow to him. He can't have her. beautiful song tho, very emotional

I think this song is predominately reffering to the Mississippi River. This is one of my all-time favorite songs.

makes me think of summer. when all the stars are out. and those nights you spend with that one person. but you can't tell them how you feel; it wil ruin it. but then again, some of the things they did already have.
