    General Commentyesterday a very close friend of mine was hit by a truck and died.. this song has been on repeat.. eventhough the meaning is touchingan entirely different subject than what i feel

    General Commentthis song is obviously about when a girl leaves you and you feel like total crap and look outside and its nice, you just want it to be crappy out there too...sounds crazy but its true i've been through it.

    General CommentThis song is particularly painful because of the story behind it. One of the staff writers at Motown, Roger Penzabene, had found out his wife was cheating on him, and it was the inspiration for his lyrics. Sadly he couldn't handle it, and killed himself just after the song was released. :(

    MemoryMy dad died 3 years ago and I grew up with him singing me the Temptations, this song was the last song that him and I sang together...it brings back a LOT of memories :(

    General CommentSo I heard a story on the 60s channel on Sirius. They said that the piano intro for this song was written on a piano with a few broken keys. It just amazes me how Motown could create that type of environment. A depressed songwriter + busted equipment + talented producer + gifted vocal group = a beautiful artistic piece that is still cherished 45+ years later.

    I don't think you can duplicate that running sound samples through protools & autotune

    Song FactRodger Penzabene who wrote this was a songwriter for the Motown label.
    The songs "I Wish It Would Rain" and "I Could Never Love Another" reportedly came from Penzabene's pain and suffering.

    On New Year's Eve 1967, a week after the release of "I Wish It Would Rain", Penzabene committed suicide by gunshot at the age of 23
