All in All (This One Last Wild Waltz) Lyrics
Oh, what's the matter?
Oh no. It's no better.
I've been thinking it out and it still gets no better,
I'm here singing this out and these thoughts get no fresher.
All in all I'd say things have turned out good,
you still don't smile at me but then I never thought you would.
You don't waste time on praise. Do you sir?
But you should be proud to be sure.
No sir. It's still no better oh sir, I thought you meant better
Your experience will teach me no more lessons.
From lower down you just seemed so much better
All in all I'd say things have turned out good,
you still don't smile at me but then I never thought you would.
You don't waste time on praise, when you could.
Or just tell me something. anything. good.
Oh no look it's still no better.
No no these thought are no fresher.
You see tenderess is the asset here lacking,
but won't you join me in this one last wild waltz,
just once again in the one last wild waltz.
Anduici tú mé san damsa fión
Anduici tú mé san damsa fión
round and round, and round and round...
round and round, and round and round...
Anduici tú mé san damsa fión
Anduici tú mé san damsa fión

Believe this song is about a school teacher that impressed Rowland. When he says "lower down" he means in a lower school class. At that time, the teacher was impressive, but as he got older, the teacher was less and less important to him. Probably the man was a disappointment also, as the jab about not smiling seems a little vindictive...
@thirdshore I had a completely different theory about this song. I thought it was from the viewpoint of a hooker who was dancing with her man / handler and finding that he owned her but had no tenderness for her. But now you mention it being about a teacher, I think maybe it might have been a music teacher. "All in all I'd say things have turned out good" that line being about his success as a pop star, then he says: "You still don't smile at me But then I never thought you would. Good." ...So maybe he met his old music teacher again in a pub or something, after his band became successful, and the teacher still behaved in an offhand and blase manner towards him, as if he was still a schoolboy making mistakes in class.

This song is about his Irish father, hence the Irish language at the close of the song. His father is inadequate, distant and unloving, he seemed so much better when Kevin was younger. Despite his father's shortcomings, Kevin hasn't given up on him, the "one last wild waltz" is a metaphor for his willingness to try to establish a genuine and open relationship with his dad.
It's a beautiful song, Kevin says he wrote it down in a hurry without really knowing what it was about; the penny dropped years later, when a fan told him it was clearly about his father.
