Wishing I Was There Lyrics

Take your hand,
And place it in my pocket,
Flick your eyes back in their sockets,
Put those thoughts away,
Sometimes they're much too loud, I'll take a breath,
And cradle your sweet head,
Should've stayed at home in bed,
Put that face away, I'm melting for you,
I know. I get cold,
Cos I can't leave things well alone,
Understand i'm accident prone,
Me, I get free, Every night the moon is mine,
But when the morning comes,
Don't say you love me, Don't say you need me,
I really don't think thats fair,
Boy, i'm not so dumb, But when you leave me,
I'll be wishing i, wishing i, wishing I was there,
I dreamt, about another girl in bed with you,
You just laughed and smiled, denied the proof,
We're fine till I think of a problem,
I wish it made sense, Like a joke that no one gets,
It's a life without regret,
I want it to feel that way, forever and ever,
( Chorus )

Its about a fling. She and this guy are sleeping together, and they both want to go further with the relationship but she is difficult. She tends to sabotage her relationships. He loves her, and though she wants to love him, she knows she will just mess it up with her usual neurotic paranoia, so she keeps the relationship limited to sex, and sends him away in the morning, all the while wishing he could stay. When she says "don't say you love me, don't say you need me, I really don't think that's fair" It is unfair to her because she wants to return the sentiment but she can't let herself love him back.

I've not seen the video so I'm not sure what is it about...is it about a girl's insecurities?

I think this song is about a girl who knows she's hot and knows that guys will use her for it, so instead of falling for a guy and getting hurt, she just takes that option off the table. She goes out and parties, goes home with guys and in the morning just leaves no strings attached, even if the guy wants more. That's my interpretation. There could be more to it.

Lily Allen's 'Take What You Take" is lifted directly from this song. Why? Because I get "Take What You Take" stuck in my head and it mutates into "Wishing I Was There".
