No Shelter Lyrics
The main attraction - distraction
got ya number than nnumber than numb
Empty ya pockets son; they got you thinkin that
What ya need is what they sellin
Make you think that buyin is rebellin
From the theaters to malls on every shore
Tha thin line between entertainment and war
The frontline is everywhere, there be no shelter here
Speilberg the nightmare works so push it far
Amistad was a whip, the truth was feathered and tarred
Memory erased, burned and scarred
Trade in ya history for a VCR
Cinema, simulated life, ill drama
Fourth Reich culture - Americana
Chained to the dream they got ya searchin for
The thin line between entertainment and war
There be no shelter here
Tha frontline is everywhere
Hospitals not profit full
Yet market bulls got pockets full
To advertise some hip disguise
View tha world from American eyes
The poor adore keep fiendin' for more
Tha thin line between entertainment and war
They fix the need, develop the taste
Buy their products or get laid to waste
Coca-Cola is back in the veins of Saigon
And Rambo too, he got a dope pair of Nikes on
And Godzilla pure muthafuckin filler
To keep ya eyes off the real killer
Cinema, simulated life, ill drama
Fourth Reich culture - Americana
Chained to the dream they got ya searchin for
Tha thin line between entertainment and war
American eyes, American eyes....
View the world from American eyes
Bury the past, rob us blind
And leave nothin behind
Just stare
Relive the nightmare
got ya number than nnumber than numb
Empty ya pockets son; they got you thinkin that
What ya need is what they sellin
Make you think that buyin is rebellin
From the theaters to malls on every shore
Tha thin line between entertainment and war
The frontline is everywhere, there be no shelter here

"Into your pockets son they got you thinkin' that What you need is what they sellin' Make you think that buyin' is rebellin'" -This one is Rage' point of view on advertisng and the media. Most adventisments today try to make it look like buying their product will set you apart from the crowd...when all you've done is given your money to a huge corporation. I especially like the part that says "trade in your history for a vcr" This pretty much sums up what i believe...that most people would rather watch a fictional story than learn about their heritage.
This song appeared on the Godzilla soundtrack, and Rage Against the Machine is dissing the whole of the entertainment industry (including Godzilla and its director Steven Speilberg) and saying that the entertainment industry is working in conjunction with the government to keep the citizens complacent and unaware of the real-life dramas of the world (Godzilla pure motherfuckin' filler [to] Get your eyes on the real killer.)
They also attack other issues like how advertising companies make you think that you are cool for buying their products (They got you thinkin' that what you need is what they sellin' / Make you think that buyin' is rebellin'.)
I really like this song because it was lyrics that mean a lot to me (and cool music too.) This song also appears as Track 13 on the Australian version of 'The Battle of Los Angeles.'
Oh, and by the way, the lyrics above are pretty wrong, so try and find them somewhere else if you want the real deal.
I agree aneurysm...... This song is taking back the pleasure of being on the Godzilla soundtrack. For my point to be valid, though, the lyric is "Godzilla pure mothafuckin' filler....to keep your eyes off the real killer"
Basically, it means that the average American is hypnotized by scary movies and we go to bed at night scared of the monsters in our closet or the ghosts in the TV (Poltergeist) or the great big monsters (Godzilla) or even the cannibalistic psychopaths (Silence....a great movie though) while our government is fucking us over by leading us into pure capitalism and in extreme cases rich, white dominance. Go to bed and have a different kind of nightmare tonight.
it should read "And live the nightmare" not "Or"
i believe it also said "amistad was a whip, the truth feathered and tarred"
also "and rambo too, he got a dope pair of nikes on"
even with these corrections...the song still kicks ass
ahh i never noticed the double thing in "american eyes/americanize". to me it's pure anti capitalism, simple as that, i don't really understand the politics but thats how it seems. from a lyrical point of view this is one of my favourite Rage songs
those lyrics are all fucked up...
"godzilla pure motherfuckin' filler, [to] take your eyes off the real killer..." That is saying that the media feeds us stories about Bill Clinton's affair, or some other useless shit to take our eyes off of them, and the wrongs they commit every day.
