I can't feel
Cause I'm numb
I can't feel
Cause I'm numb
So what's the worth
In all of this (All of this)
What's the worth
In all of this
Sing to me
Sing to me
So what's the worth
In all of this (All of this)
If the child in your head
If the child is dead
Sing to me
Sing to me
Cause I'm numb
I can't feel
Cause I'm numb
So what's the worth
In all of this (All of this)
What's the worth
In all of this
Sing to me
Sing to me
In all of this (All of this)
If the child in your head
If the child is dead
Sing to me
Sing to me

Great song and the best song off the Leisure album. The song's so sad.I think about loss and being not able to find any meaning or significance for life.
To me it's about the loss of childhood innocence and happiness. Losing a part of your soul and just existing. This is one of the saddest songs I know. I love it.
Before I found out that it was taken off Leisure I was going insane trying to find out what album it was on after I heard it in Trainspotting. No one listed it as a song on Leisure, and I can't imagine why they would remove it.
i don't think it's ment to be read into that much, it's self explanitory
it's about losing all your emotion towards life, and just feeling like there is simply no point left
"clearly about-" STFU!
@feesha Agreed.
@feesha Agreed.
To me - this song is about the loss of meaning in life that comes about due to any number of circumstances, the obvious being growing up and losing your inner child.
It's particular relevant to me as i suffered my first episode of depressive illness when this song came out in Trainspotting in '96 and its always going to remain with me because of the numbness i felt and the "death" of the inner sensitive me (inner child) and awakeining to the realization of the reality of a "new" life going forward (living with depression).
Not to mention it's a beautiful song in itself.
This is one of my all time favourite songs. My favourite song by Blur, that's for sure. I think its about being depressed when you're younger, and you feel its unfair because everyone else is having a great childhood, etc. So really, a loss of childhood innocence, and happiness like katyisgone said.
I haven't commented on this website in ages, yet I feel that I now must given some of the comments above.
This song is off Blur's album Leisure, which came out in 1991.
The film of Trainspotting didn't come out until 1996 - the novel wasn't even published until 1993, for Gawd's sake!
This song wasn't written for the movie (although it is used in it).
Excellent song by the way... as for its meaning... I agree, it's obviously about loss of joyful innocence. Could be about heroin - but not necessarily so.
In fact, according to Wikipedia, "Sing" was written in 1988...
""Sing" was included on the Trainspotting soundtrack in 1996. The original version, "Sing (To Me)" was recorded as a demo in late 1988 under the band's former name- Seymour, and can only be heard on the ultra-rare Promo-only single which was released over a decade later in February 2000."
Yeah it's about stopping Heroin use. Struggling to find meaning or positivity in life while going through the PAWS depression stages of withdrawal. Concurrently it could be about a moment of clarity during use. But what's the worth of all of this, anyway?
