Portrait Of An Apology Lyrics

.:: Portrait Of An Apology ::.

Look what I've done
This picture I've painted
It looks like my heart
Or what still remains

Convinced of the weight
Your interpretations
Are not what I see
I wish they could be

I remember it much redder
I remember it much brighter

Chorus:

Can you stay for a while
Try to imagine this
Could you be for a while
I can't remember it
Could you fall for a while
I can't escape from this

I'll try to explain
The way that the frame
Doesn't quite fit the image
Or surround the edge

It stands on display
What do you see?
Behold all the new grey
What's become of the old me

I remember it much redder
I remember it much brighter

[Chorus]

Calling, crying, ashamed of what I am not
Really failing, falling into this cage and I can't escape
I can't escape

Look what I've done
This picture I've painted
Doesn't quite fit
Or surround the edge
I remember it much redder

[Chorus]

I can't escape, I can't escape, I can't escape

I CAN'T BELIEVE NO ONE'S COMMENTED- this is almost my favorite Jars of Clay song...to me it's saying that they know they're not perfect and they regret it, wanting someone to stay with them and try to see what they're going through.

I def see your interpretation and I agree, don't understand why no comments. I see you commented a LONG time ago. I discussed shortly at a concert with the band the meaning of the song. It is surely one of those that means many things to most (and mostly diff things) Oh, the beauty of musical interpretation!!

To me it presents our need and want to share (with others) the emotional overflow of realizing what Christ really did and who He is. Not in an evangelistic manner but in a brotherhood/sisterhood increase in fellowship manner. Also, a plea to Christ as well as a humble apology of how far away we come, even through our best efforts, to understanding the crucifixion and pain God had to suffer. Sad, sad song yet encouraging because it leads only to drawing on God's grace, power and peace. Understanding, unnecessary. Clarity shall never be granted in the matter of the crucifixion and resurrection. But fellowship completely necessary although just an act of psychological effort to resolve the that which cannot be - because he is God and we are not!!

My Interpretation

One of my most favorite songs by the way.

It's about self condemnation.

It's about the mares and mistakes we cover up and scars we self salve.

We become isolated and caged.

When Confronted with others interpretation...of who we have become...we can't explain what we were or could have been..

It's a portrait of a person who compares who the were to how far they have fallen..

Who would walk in their shoes?

Stay Be Fall In their shoes...for a while...

It's honestly hard to walk in your own shoes...let alone someone else's.

It's anguish. The song is anguish as most true apologizes are.
