Getting Even Lyrics
She leans closer to me
I give a warning of higher calling
Must go over with me
We’re not happy in this place we are
Get up
The countdown will begin
Get up
Towards devotion
Get up
Leave everything with them
Get up
Cause you won’t need anything
We’ll be shielded up above
And the screams will not reach us
Fear will be undone
On the path of chosen ones
Getting even
They haven’t heard a word we’ve said
They make mistakes
They doubt his calling
To taste revenge will be so sweet
When we have left them this place
And as we leave our sacrifice
One final step outside
No longer feel these things around
Soon we’ll be happy in the place we are
Get up
The countdown will begin
Get up
Towards devotion
Get up
Leave everything with them
Get up
Cause you won’t need anything
We’ll be shielded up above
And the screams will not reach us
Fear will be undone
On the path of chosen ones
Getting even

This song always makes me think of the rapture. and yes i know guster is jewish, but that's what it makes me think of. or something like abraham and sarah in the old testament leaving their home because God told them to. kinda like they are waiting for all the unfaithful to get their share. This was one of the songs that i always thought gave guster that "christian band" question in their faq.
hmm.. this is my favorite guster of all time.. it seems to me its about getting revenge and finding a way of defeating anything in your way.. on the last time Brian mumbles something about going to hell.. so i dont know if it has anything to do with Sarah and Abraham
I always thought this song was pretty sarcastic myself. When he sings the lyric about not being happy where you are, I feel like he feels a certain amount of contempt for that sentiment. To me the song makes me feel for people who live only for that feeling that they will be vindicated in the end.
Brians mumbling is him reading a cult pamphlet in the background, which leads me to believe that this song is about a cult.

You can hear him reading during the bridge... it's hard to hear what he's saying exactly. It's most clear around the 3:30 mark.

Favorite guster song... still, what does it mean!
it could be about the conflict with palestine
Call me nuts but I sort of see this song as another version of the Airport song. Both seem to be recruiting for a cult. Airport song seems to be from the vantage point of the cult leader and this one is a cult member trying to convert a friend or acquaintance. Both may be a interpreted as critiques of organized religion or just exploring the topic of cults... Again, could totally be missing the mark. kickass song though. I'm definitely missing classic guster....
Frist off, i love this song and is by far one of my favorites. I have to believe, in my eyes, that this can be linked to personal salvation in christ. (im a christian but i don't oooze "godliness" and im not someone to find everything linking to god -- if that makes sense at all."
but, in christianity (sp? i suck) if you accept christ as your savior then you are "saved" and will get to go to heaven. and as a christian you are called to spread the word of god and help people to come to know the lord. also, somewhere in the bible it says that the lord will come again. here are some verses to back all of this up:
"We’ll be shielded up above And the screams will not reach us Fear will be undone On the path of chosen ones"
"They haven’t heard a word we’ve said They make mistakes They doubt his calling"
"When we have left them this place And as we leave our sacrifice One final step outside No longer feel these things around Soon we’ll be happy in the place we are"
so really, it's the whole song. i really know nother about guster and have done no research on them, but i do absolutely love their sound, lyrics, and the feel of the band. i dunno if they intended this to be religious (i read about that he's jewish?) but this is what popped out at me.
