Demons Lyrics

My words confuse you
My eyes don’t move a blink
Cause it’s easier sometimes
Not to be sincere
Somehow I make you believe
Believe
When I speak I cross my fingers
Will you know you’ve been deceived?
I find a need to be the demon
A demon cannot be hurt
Honest is easy
Fiction is where genius lies
Cause it’s easier sometimes
Not to be involved
Somehow I make you believe
Believe
When I speak I cross my fingers
Will you know you’ve been deceived?
I find a need to be the demon
A demon cannot be hurt
When I speak I cross my fingers
Will you know you’ve been deceived?
I find a need to be the demon
A demon cannot be hurt
When I speak I cross my fingers
Will you know you’ve been deceived?
I find a need to be the demon
A demon cannot be hurt

I love this song. To me, it's about how people sometimes are too frightened to be sincere about who they are and what they're feeling. And because of this fear, we equivocate and mislead people deliberately and tell complete lies. All because it's easier to not take risks, to not chance getting hurt.

i completely agree, raspberry. people nowadays are too concerned with self-image and really don't care about substance. it completely baffles me how people can be so self centered.

I love this song as well, but I have to say that I don't think things have changed. Self-interest has been the driving impulse behind most of history.

HOLY CRIKEY! How come no one knows Guster? They rawk. I'm with raspberry on this one. You kids need to plug Guster when you comment on songs.

This song is about a guy who feels the only way girls will be interested in him is if he lies and does not reveal his true self. Its a rather sad song. "When I speak I cross my fingers"...This shows that he knows he is lying and he doesn't want to but he does anyway.

getchoo - guster is probably my favorite band on the face of this earth. this song is pretty cool...not their best, though. raspberry's probably right about the meaning. "honest is easy Fiction is where genius lies" how cool is that!?!

I know! I LOVE those two lines.

Mine too, however, when I ask just about everyone I know if they know who they are, they don't? It's ok....I'll be Guster's missionary

yeaa i guess i think this song is kinda about how so many people are afraid of just opening up and letting people in because they are afraid to get hurt, maybe from something in the past? who knows...but guster rocks my socks =)

Ahh, Demons, ^^. This was my first Guster song. ((Saying that sounds like I was a little kid, reading my first book or something...)) I feel like sharing my Guster experience, so bear with me... I found this song a couple years ago, on an anime contest (it was some sort of monthly contest to draw a picture based on the music they give you, and Demons was the song of the Month.) However, it was a different version (a capella), by a band called Dogstar...so for a good half a year, I was misled, thinking that this amazing song was written by Dogstar. At camp that summer, I heard LOTS of people listening to the Guster version of Demons...and I found the truth, ^^.

And so, another Guster fangirl was born.

Onto my interpretation: I definitely agree with all that's been said already, that the song is about people who are afraid to be themselves, who hide under a mask, like we're told NOT to do - to be the antithesis of what they've been taught, to be the Demon. ((This is where I think the title comes in.)) It's always easier to be cold, distant, detatched, so that when something happens that could potentially hurt you, you're out of the line of fire, your feelings locked tight away from the world under your Demon-mask.
