I will dig a hole
Save my pennies for a rainy day
I will dig a hole
Saving pennies for a rainy day
I'm not scared
I will build a wall
Sensing trouble from a mile away
I will build a wall
Saw it coming from a mile away
I'm not scared
I'm not scared
CHORUS:
Try
When your inside's out
I don't even try
I know I have seen the best I'll have
I don't even try
I will just play dumb
I won't hear a single word that's said
I will bite my tongue
Never sing another song again
I'm not scared
I'm not scared
CHORUS:
Try
When your inside's out
I don't even try
I know I have seen the best I'll have
I don't even try
Never been one to take my chances
I don't even try
Clouds are coming
The air get heavy
It looks like trouble on a rainy day
Sun starts sinking
I can't see my shadow
It looks like trouble on a rainy day
Holes uncovered
The walls will crumble
It all spells trouble on a rainy day
Save my pennies for a rainy day
I will dig a hole
Saving pennies for a rainy day
Sensing trouble from a mile away
I will build a wall
Saw it coming from a mile away
I'm not scared
When your inside's out
I don't even try
I know I have seen the best I'll have
I don't even try
I won't hear a single word that's said
I will bite my tongue
Never sing another song again
I'm not scared
When your inside's out
I don't even try
I know I have seen the best I'll have
I don't even try
I don't even try
Clouds are coming
The air get heavy
It looks like trouble on a rainy day
I can't see my shadow
It looks like trouble on a rainy day
The walls will crumble
It all spells trouble on a rainy day

Definitely, this song deals with the construction of a facade, and the self-deception that comes along with that; "I'm not scared" "I will just play dumb, never hear a single word that's said." When I hear this, the old saying that 'ignorance is bliss' comes to mind. In a way, I feel that he wants to be ignorant, or at least play ignorant, but he's not. He's fully aware that the rain is coming but he's too jaded to even care. He's afraid of being hurt, so he doesn't even try. It's almost an excuse; a security blanket - 'I didn't get it because I didn't even try, what's the point in trying anyway? It's going to rain either way.' Powerful song, the lyrics and music combine so well to capture that feeling of hopelessness and this droning circle of melancholy that I'm sure relates to how we're feeling at some point on our lives. But remember people - when it rains, pull out an umbrella!
this song is incredibly beautiful.
i love this song, i heard it on "Life As a House" and I couldn't find it anywhere, but i searched for "rainy day" on here for the title and i found it=]
This song touches strait to the core, when everything seems to be falling apart and it was inevitable. "saw it coming from a mile, i'm not scared", the latter part gives some hope: fear is not necessary. Yet the rest of the song is just depressing; great to listen on those "rainy days".
this song is so so wonderful.. it really hits you in the heart. peace
i completely agree with you UltimateCHill. i love this song. can't wait to see guster in july! :)
could someone send me a message about what this song is really about? is it about just not being afraid? i still like the song though hehe
This is my favorite guster song I love the movie Life as A House hayden plays such a great goth!:) and he's so hot in Star Wars episode II.
This song hits hard. Incredibly hard. "I know I have seen the best I'll have, I don't even try." Simply, it's not exactly about giving up, but about not wanting/bothering to try to exceed anymore than what you are. Such an amazing song.
I also wanted this song after hearing it in "Life As A House." I couldnt find it and gave up till i rented the video, heard it again, wanted it again, and watched the credits to find the title.
