All The Way Up To Heaven Lyrics
haha. i love this. it makes me laugh to hear them singing so high. its great.
I guess it could be drugs, but I doubt it. I mean, you interpret it your own way, we all do, but I think it's more obviously about someone trying to convert him. All the stuff about "down is where we came from" as in, from the "clay" in Genesis that Adam was made of, as well as the Fall of mankind, and how we should be looking up: ahead to better days, ultimately to heaven and our reunion with God. And, "no one get's high on themselves" could be a reference to how supposedly no one gets to heaven but through Jesus; we can't do it ourselves. This is all implied, of course.
Still, one gets the definite impression the narrator doesn't buy it, even though he acknowledges his need to not "stay the same I am today". He calls it a fairy tale, and implies, alright, don't get annoyed, he's just trying to be nice to me, since I seem so lonely and sad, and help in the way he knows how.
Or, maybe when he says he believes, it's a spoof on religious people. How they generally just get suckered in with tales of hope and everlasting love, and end up depending on their preacher or guru
It sounds hes singing about some religious advocate for christianity or something like that..."He's just trying to be nice And spread around his advice ...... Soon I could be happy And go all the way up to heaven And go all the way back home" and the soprano-ness of his voice just makes it comical.
yeah... advocate for christianity... when they're all jewish. check the faq on their website; it's pretty funny, especially the "digital fridge cams." anyhoo, at first this song sounded really funny, but now i'm used to the highness of his voice and i really like it.
I can see the point of view that this song is about a guy preaching to someone, and how being religious can make things better.
However, I saw the meaning of this song as completely different. To me, it sounds like someone is traveling back home to where they can be happy. Their mode of trasnportation is by airplane ("Down is where we came from" ... "And go all the way up to heaven, And go all the way back home"). Maybe he's talking to the flight attendent or pilot, who helps him get back home. I don't exactly know how the last verse fits in with my story though, so I'm probably completely wrong. I guess I'm just a long way from home, and my situation made me perceive the song in a different way.
Great song nonetheless.
To me, the biggest giveaway that this song is about Christianity (whether mockingly or not) is the lyrics in the undertones at the end of the song. I'll rewrite them real quick.
It's a warm summer breeze It's a weakness in your knees
It's perfect place above Full of everlasting love Nothing to fear Nothing to hide You just say what's on your mind Needn't think before you speak This is how it's meant to be Ever high never fall You can do no wrong at all In this heaven up above Filled with everlasting love To the light To the light
To me, this symbolizes the reason that most Christians believe in Christianity. I think the highness of his voice is just to further push the meaning of going up and to be "ever high" and never falling. I usually think that all things in Guster songs have some meaning, comedy always seems to follow along with it.
love this song. .it is funny to hear them sing so high. .but its just such a great sounding and happy song :)
i also like the clapping in the song
Ultimate they type of way they are singing is Falsetto.
Sorry I meant, the way they are singing in Falsetto, soprano means low.
