I seem to recognize your face
Haunting, familiar yet
I can't seem to place it
Cannot find the candle of thought to light your name
Lifetimes are catching up with me

All these changes taking place
I wish I'd seen the place
But no one's ever taken me

Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away
Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away

I swear, I recognize your breath
Memories like fingerprints are slowly raising
Me, you wouldn't recall for I'm not my former
It's hard when you're stuck upon the shelf

I changed by not changing at all
Small town predicts my fate
Perhaps that's what no one wants to see
I just want to scream hello

My God it's been so long
Never dreamed you'd return
But now here you are and here I am

Hearts and thoughts they fade away

Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away
Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away
Hearts and thoughts they fade away
Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away
Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away
Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away
Hearts and thoughts they fade

This song sort of describes what kind of a place I live in. I live in a small town where pretty much everyone knows each other, and one of the places where people like to go often is a small store (the only store in town) where they can sit at the tables and drink they're coffee in the morning, get some lunch, and all that. Years from now, there will be different people sitting at these tables, a different person behind the counter, or it may not even be there at all. The town tries to stay small, and I hope it does stay that way, because without the places from your memories, it's hard to recall them. This is what this song means to me- Everything changes around you, and you're stuck inside memories of how things used to be. After awhile it all starts to fall apart, things go in and out of style, small towns become cities, friends exit your life in one way or another, and you're stuck where you were.
