This song is kind of full of opposition. She smiles as she watches a death, but yet says Won't you please stay. Confusing, but a good song.

In the verses, it sounds like a loved one is dying, and the speaker is just putting on a strong facade and numbing the pain. In the B section, they describe the futility of resisting death(or resisting something-what is 'desire that you cannot mention?') But then again, in the C section, they still insist on defying the odds. Not just to live, but to thrive. To reach for the sky and to fly.

Maybe it's not necessarily about a literal death, but a difference of direction that pulls two people in opposite directions, although one of them wants to keep the other with them, instead of letting them go.

This is the first LC song I ever heard. And the song that got me hooked. :-)

i think that the song is about letting loved one go....the main point is that nothing lasts forever. it also it mite be about killin a loved one without them..u want them to stay but u also want them to go

I think this deals with someone leaving a loved one and trying to convince themselves that they don't have anymore feelings even though it's obvious they do
