Filler epitomizes all of Minor Threat's songs. Obviously, Ian is attacking blind loyalty to anything, specifically religion and love here. I think this is one of the craziest songs ever musically. I only wish I could have seen Minor Threat live, since this song obviously would have torn the house down.

what exactly is wrong with religion? Ok, maybe some people use it as excuse to persecute other people, but that's not everyone!! Is there really anything wrong with wanting to have a community that supports you and offers you unconditional love, no matter what? Maybe if Ian Mckay picked up a bible himself, he would see that it contains a loving message. BY saying that people who are relgious are idiots, he is as bad as a zealot who says that those without faith are evil. Hypocrisy.

I've read the entire Bible. A lot of it can be explained when read in context but there are parts that are not loving and challenging. The book of Joshua is particularly hard as God demands genocide of the occupants of the Promised Land. Even looking at the Bible as a Reformist, that everything points towards the redemption offered through Jesus, how does that show love to the dead Moabs etc?

This song is about the Teen Idles guitarist, Geordie Grindle. The Idles broke up because of Grindle's girlfriend, a Christian who didn't like the band. Grindle, likewise, lost interest in the Teen Idles, and they disbanded.

mama duck, i kind of inturpret the song differently, he picked up a bible and stoped acting like himself, say with the girl, someone picked up a girl and tryed to impress her and look cool, and he just wants these people to be themselves, i really dont think he is puting down religion though
