Walking On Broken Glass Lyrics
You were the sweetest thing that I ever knew
But I don't care for sugar honey if I can't have you
Since you've abandoned me
My whole life has crushed
Won't you pick the pieces up
'Cause it feels just like I'm walking on broken glass
Walking on, walking on broken glass
The sun's still shining in the big blue sky
But it don't mean nothing to me
Oh let the rain come down
Let the wind blow through me
I'm living in an empty room
With all the windows smashed
And I've got so little left to lose
That it feels just like I'm walking on broken glass
Walking on, walking on broken glass
And I've you're trying to cut me down
You know that I might bleed
Cause if you're trying to cut me down
I know that you'll succeed
And if you want to hurt me
There's nothing left to fear
Cause if you want to hurt me
You're doing really well my dear
Now everyone of use was made to suffer
Everyone of us was made to weep
But we've been hurting one another
And now the pain has cut too deep...
So take me from the wreckage
Save me from the blast
Lift me up and take me back
Don't let me keep on walking...
Walking on broken glass
Walking on walking on broken glass
But I don't care for sugar honey if I can't have you
Since you've abandoned me
My whole life has crushed
Won't you pick the pieces up
'Cause it feels just like I'm walking on broken glass
Walking on, walking on broken glass
The sun's still shining in the big blue sky
But it don't mean nothing to me
Oh let the rain come down
Let the wind blow through me
I'm living in an empty room
With all the windows smashed
And I've got so little left to lose
That it feels just like I'm walking on broken glass
Walking on, walking on broken glass
And I've you're trying to cut me down

Cause if you're trying to cut me down

And if you want to hurt me

The person in the song has been hurt by a lover, abandoned. Their heart has been broken, and the pain is so sharp, it seems like they are walking on broken glass. The imagery is like being in an abandoned house with the windows smashed, and glass all over the floor. The person says that if the lover's intention was to hurt the partner, they succeeded. It ends with a plea to pick up the pieces and save them from the destruction of their happiness.
Nail on the head. Great song.
Nail on the head. Great song.
I love anything she does; her voice is phenomenal.
Yeah, I used to really like this song. I guess I still do, but I don't want because it kind of hits home right now. I think the melody is deceiving.
'Won't you pick the pieces up'
To me, the glass is her shattered heart and self esteem...and she doesn't want him to take her back, she just wants to know why he has hurt her so she can pick up the pieces and move forward.
"Your doing really well by me"...I thought thats what the line was. But hey what do I know? LOL:) Don't answer k? K. Annie is an amazing vocalist.

I love annie lennox's use of video her videos are so theatrical and this video and song are a prime example!
grouping, I totally agree. A sad song with a happy-sounding tune.
this is the kind of song that i can never pass up when it comes on shuffle. the intro is epic and always makes me want to listen to the rest of the song. i also love the use of strings in this song.
