I have to disagree with the majority. I think it is about a guy who has found the girl he knows he could be with the rest of his life, but seems to be caught up in the search for the bbd. He's fighting an internal battle with his feelings, afraid to say out loud what his heart is screaming, the fear of commitment has been leading the way, but it's time to bring the ship into the shore and throw away the oars forever.

Never mind the throwing oars I get it now.. done looking. No other girl can match up with the girl that's right in front of him. He's putting the oars away(finding other women) and settling with the girl he's cared soo much about. He wants to spend the rest of his life with her and he can't find the intense feeling anymore about her.

I think this song talks about how he has feelings for a girl friend of his...but being that they're friends he's kept it hidden. Now he's wondering why he's kept it inside this whole time and decides to tell her how he feels.

this is one of the best love songs of all time, yeah, he can't fight the feeling no more, and has to express it, too bad it never ever always turns out how you want it too when you DO eventually tell her.

Others on here have written that this song is all about "Friendship." A guy having this girl as a friend, and then he realizes he wants her to be his "Steady Girlfriend." I respectfully disagree. I feel that the relationship is further along than that. I feel that the guy is already dating the girl for awhile, but then he realizes that what he really wants is TO MARRY THIS GIRL!.
