You can say what you want about me
Want to do what you want to me
But you cannot stop me

I've been knocked down it's a crazy town
Even gotta punch in the face in L.A.
Ain't nothin' in the world that can keep me
From doing what I want to do
'Cause I'm too proud, I'm too strong,
Live by the code that you gotta move on
Feeling sorry for yourself ain't got nobody nowhere

So I (held my head high)
Knew I (knew I'd survive)
Well I made it (I made it)
Don't hate it (Don't hate it)
That's just the way it goes

Yeah

I done made it through
Stand on my own two
I paid my dues yeah
Tried to hold me down
You can't stop me now
I paid my dues

So like I told you
You cannot stop me
I paid my dues yeah

Now I'm still trusted everyday
And people try to mess with Anastacia
Gotta another thing comin'
'cause I have a mind and I thought I'd better let you know
I'm no punk I can't get down,
I don't give a damn about who's around
That's worked just fine 'til now

So I (held my head high)
Knew I (knew I'd survive)
Well I made it (i made it, don't hate it)
Whoa
That's just the way it goes

Yeah (I done made it through)
Oh I'll stand on my own two
I paid my dues, yeah
Tried to hold me down
You can't stop me now
I paid my dues

Yeah yeah yeah

Took so long to get me here
But I won't live in fear
Are you tryin' to steal my shine?
First they want to build you up
Then they tear you down
It's a struggle, tryin' a bubble

So I (held my head high)
Knew I (knew I'd survive)
Whoa whoa whoa (I made it, don't hate it)

Said that's just the way
I said I paid my, I paid my dues
Yeah yeah yeah
But you can't stop me now
I paid my, paid my due oh whoa whoa whoa
Oh I paid my I paid my dues
Yeah
But you can't stop me now
I paid my dues

This is a really powerful song. It makes you feel good about yourself and what you do. She's saying that she worked hard to get to where she is, and she's not gonna let anyone bring her down. She put to much into getting to the top, and now that she's there she's not backing down for anything. We should all think like this when it comes to achieving our goals.

    The lyrics are wrong

    Here are the correct lyrics:

You can say what you want about me Try to do what you want to me But you cannot stop me

I've been knocked down, it's a crazy town Even got a punch in the face in LA Ain't nothin' in the world that could keep me from doin what I wanna do

Cause I'm too proud, I'm too strong Live by the code that you gotta move on Feelin' sorry for yourself ain't got nobody nowhere.

So I (held my head high) I knew I (knew I'd survive) Well I made it (I made it) I don't hate it (don't hate it) That's just the way it goes

Yeah, I'm done, made it through, Stand on my own two, I paid my dues Tried to hold me down, you can't stop me now I paid my dues

So like I told you You cannot stop me I paid my dues, yeah

Now I'm still tested everyday And people try to mess with Anastacia Got another thing coming cause I handle mine And I thought I better let you know

I'm no punk, I can't get down I don't give a damn about who's around That worked just fine till now

So I (held my head high) Knew I (knew I'd survive) Well I made it (I made it) Don't hate it, that's just the way it goes

I'm done, made it through, Stand on my own two, I paid my dues Tried to hold me down, you can't stop me now I paid my dues

Took so long to get me here But I won't live in fear Of you tryin' to steal my shine But first they wanna build you up Then they tear you down It's a struggle, tryin' to bubble

    So I...

It's funny, she once said that there is no metaphor in the lines "Even got a punch in the face in LA " ... she ACTUALLY got punched in LA...once she was walking down the streets and there were some guys fighting and she interrupted them and got punched lol

Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
